If you are really strapped send the hospital a check for 5$ or 10$ a month and keep a record of payment. As long as you are paying something, most hospitals won't send you to collections because it costs them money to do so. Die with 20 or 30 thousand dollars in debt. What will you care? In KY as long as you are "Attempting payment" they mostly leave you alone. Just ask any old person, anywhere, at any time, in your state.
