I found this horse harness buckle yesterday morning at the site of an 1800's farm house. These buckles went on the harness straps of horses and mules that pulled wagons and plows and other machinery. It originally had an iron tang attached to the cross bar of the buckle which has since rusted away. Traces of iron rust can still be seen on it. It is at least 100 years old.
