
Another bit of shading practice/cool down, done at the end of the stream tonight (cause I tend to dream about drawing commission if I don't do something else before bed, and that sucks).

Thank you! I find really limiting yourself on time (I honestly would have preferred closer to 30 min on this, but hey I was tired...that's my excuse...shhhh) help in pretty much forcing you to make the most of each stroke. When you don't have the luxury of time you have to just let certain things go or you'll never finish by the deadline. The main thing is making sure each stroke counts and really adds to the piece, doing as many things as possible (the shade/color, angle, curve, texture etc all jammed into one stroke as much as possible) with that one motion.
This was mostly done on a single layer using the brush tool in Sai. I generally had it set pretty hard (in terms of the 4 little squares that decide edge hardness), and mostly used the "circular" and "fine-flat" shape options, since I like the sort of paintbrush look/feel they have. I hit it at the end with a bit of airbrushing to darken/lighten some areas a bit more.
