I would recommend a mat over sand. especially if you ever get your friend here a mate. The females tend to dig a lot when full of eggs and kick up a lot of dust which can give them lung infections.

yea you can get it at petsmart you can get crushed walnuts its great for the smell I only smell his tank when i waited to long to change it other then that it smells like an old wood house lol you can get calcium sand to with if they eat it it just gives the more calcium look it up its great if you want white sand lol ^.=.^
