"and believe me I am still alive
I'm doing science and I'm still alive
I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive
While you are dying I'll be still alive
and when you're dead I'll be still alive
STILL ALIVE, still alive"
This is a nice zoom of a chainmail inlay, which is a way of painting pictures and symbols in chain using differant colored rings. It is normaly done with flat weaves which can get amazingly detailed. However THIS piece was done in a three dimensional weave on each side of a solid cube. So it was much harder to get a tiny little picture on it and still look good. The fact it is not a nice flat weave made it much harder.
This is the Companion Cube as made famous by Portal, which quickly became more famous then the game itself. I hope you guys like it.
The cube itself is made from Bright aluminum and pink Anodised aluminum heart inlays on every side. The hearts were NOT painted on there, the rings were anodised and already colored and I wove them into the chain by hand.
It is a japanese 8-2 cube weave of course. This is a SOLID cube and is chainmail all the way through because I thought that if I was going to make this I may as well make it a pure poject. People keep asking me if it is stuffed with something which is annoying.
It took somewhere around 12,000 rings to make this and it weighs just over a pound. That is somewehere around 24,000 twists of my pliers and somewhere around 75 hours of work. I lost track of how much I put into this thing. I actually ran out of metal or I would have made it a little larger and more detailed.
Alright everyone vote time. This is THE LAST pic of the Companion Cube that I am going to post. I really do not want to be slapping up a million pics of the same project. HOWEVER several people have asked if I was going to post up pics from Califur '08 of all the suiters and such playing with my cube. So I will just ask you fine folk what you think since you are the ones that look in my gallery if that would be too much. If nothing else I will just toss them up in scraps for the handfull that want to see them posted.
PLEASE VIEW THE REST OF MY GALLERY FOR MORE OF THE CUBE AND MY WORK.

No don't worry it doesn't bother me. I like looking at your photos and at least the things you post are interesting or pretty. I just don't like to post everything at once since it bothers some people. Plus it gives me some kind of activity so people don't think I am dead or not visiting the site.
