Species; An ancient kind of Alicorn that’s extinct now, except her.
They could summon their wings at will, and the shape and number of wings varied. The wings were always at least a little transparent. They had slit pupils and fluffy ears, and all of them had golden hooves. The genes of this ancient Alicorn species branched off to become both bat ponies and regular Alicorns, but this happened thousand of years ago, of course.

Personality; She’s strong and brave and will never give up. She’s very stubborn when it comes to the things she believes in and wants others to open their eyes to see things in more ways than one. She’s a little mischievous and likes to play pranks on her friends. When she’s drunk she gets really sensual. She’s kind and generous and patient and will never say no to someone who needs help. She’s also competitive and she, Luna and Celestia sometimes get together for a bit of a fun, royal talent show. Spectra is of course a very humble winner, she has to be, because she always wins, except when she lets Luna or Celestia win because she’s so nice.

Background;
Empress Thornheart, or Spectra as she was called when growing up, was born far, far away. Her parents were the rulers of the Duskdawn Empire, but Spectra didn’t grow up with them. The Empire was in turmoil, there was a war raging and in order to protect her, they sent her away to be raised somewhere safe. Or so they thought. They had sent their only daughter to be raised in the Crystal Kingdom, and at first, everything was wonderful. Spectra entertained the other foals her age with summoning her wings, making little magic shows and such things. She was never told she was different from the other Crystal ponies, so she grew up thinking she just had a very special talent.

Then, when Spectra was a gorgeous teenager, King Sombra rose to power in the Crystal Empire. He looked at her, saw her for what she really was, the daughter of the Emperor and Empress of the struggling Duskdawn Empire, and declared that she was to be his wife. Spectra refused and fought, but every time she said no he’d kill one of her friends. Her friends kept telling her to refuse, but eventually, she couldn’t, and she agreed to marry the horrible King Sombra. He also put a curse on her to make sure she didn’t run away or help the slave ponies, and that curse tainted her horn and bent it.

Spectra fought the curse in secret and every day she got rid of a little of it. One day, she managed to break free completely and she escaped. She’s never forgiven herself for using her magical wings to escape, leaving all those ponies behind in the clutches of King Sombra.

Having been told who she actually was, Spectra set out on a journey home. It was a long journey, and a deadly one. She had to fight dragons and other horrible beasts, but also her own demons. Didn’t her parents love her? Why had they sent her away? Spectra got really depressed for a long time and lived in the Everfree forest where she made friends with Discord, before he tried to take over the world. She had developed feelings for him and felt betrayed when he told her he’d make the world his, so she told him how evil he was and moved on. After many years, she made it to the mysterious Duskdawn Empire, and the ponies living there were so overjoyed to have the daughter of the Emperor and Empress back home that it inspired everyone to stop the war. It was made into a bedtime story for foals, how the young and brave Princess Spectra stopped the 50 year war.

About a 100 years ago, her parents died and she was made Empress. Celestia and Luna and a very handsome male Alicorn came to the ceremony. Spectra fell in love with this Alicorn, but after using her he broke her heart and left. But Spectra was pregnant! She knew she couldn’t keep the foal because there would be scandals, so she did the same thing her parents had done to her; she sent it away, letting a loving family adopt her daughter. That daughter later became the loved ruler of the new Crystal Empire. Empress Thornheart is Cadence’s real mother, and since she had her with another Alicorn, that’s why Cadence was born an Alicorn. Nobody knows she’s her mother though.
