You're at that wonderful stage in your artistic career when you have to start directly plagiarizing the techniques used by the greats to advance. Don't be sad about it! Typically, as I'm sure you know, lettering in comic books was done with a totally different instrument; a technical pen that has very little stroke weight variation. Look at some strips and try practising. It's not an impossible task, though it is a bit slower to write out.
*Nod nod* tried doing it with a 'letter' tool and just writing in a comic-booky font, but... didn't look right, even if it does give me more space 'cause it's so even. Tried doing it without weight variation, but thought that looked a little odd too, like the letters were really... ...fat :T Just gotta fiddle with the settings a lil' bit.
