This commission was pretty unexpected. My University friend rang to me in the middle of August and asked to draw an 25 years marriage anniversary gift for his parents. He requested me a portrait of his parents looking younger. prettier and in Polish WW II - like uniforms.
The task was... pretty hard. I worked with overexposed photo references. I had to imagine the lightning ... I had to learn how to build a face using Andrew Loomis and Frank Reilly's techniques to succeed.
And I think I succeed. My friend likes it, I'm satisfied as well. I know it's not perfect, especially the face geometry and lighting but I've learned a lot from this.
I'm going to draw more portraits and human figures to build an interesting portfolio.
PS - The uniforms aren't historically accurate!
I have used some textures for clothing (fabrics, etc)

Life drawing you saw on FB already. Reading art books, studying photos, reading cg forums. They really help a lot by only just reading the post of others. I love learning and widening knowledge about drawing these days. I'm not afraid of trying drawing new things anymore. I need to learn how to use blender to create convincing architecture XD all I know in 3d is simple SketchUp XD
Very well done, Red. Reminds me a bit of a picture at my grandpa's house, of him and grandma back when he was getting ready to go off to WWII as a Marine. Rather has that 40s-era nostalgia look with the nature of the picture, and way it looks. I hope your friend and his parents enjoy it.
