Funny story about that; A friend of mine's father is a Captain in the Swedish army. (3stars in a straight line.) When he went to the US to hold a speech about a new plane design a few years ago. Once he got on stage /everyone/ saluted him because they thought he was a 3-star General like it'd be if he had 3 stars in a straight line in the American army. ;)
Nice thinking. But sadly it doesent work like that. xD
And np. :>

Yep, stars in the American military (and a few other militaries out there too), means a General. We aren't really given alot of information on other nations rank insignia's though, but 'usually' there are some commonalities you can pick up on - namely if everyone else is saluting the individual or 'group', it's a good call to do the same when they come by. . That is pretty hilarious though I gotta say.
I have the real one he drew it from. Its from 1983 ;)
Captain of the USSR and the previous owner studied at Moscow University so its unlikely he was stationed in east germany.
What i think you are thinking of when you think it looks a tad bit german is the dog-bone on the collar of the jacket as it looks like the double-line of the 'Obergefreiter' (PFC.) had on their collars. : >

I have a Stasi uniform from 1968.
The one I have belonged to an old family friend who let me have it because it was one of his earliest uniforms. It fits me like a charm. :3
And a little factoid, Putin (as a KGB agent) was stationed in East Germany to aid the Stasi in gathering intelligence.
That's weird, because I noticed that too, aside from the obvious KGB shoulder boards of a seargeant as well as the style of the hat and emblem which looks a bit East German to me.
