Another early DA re-posting back from 2011.
Did this one originally for a girl I liked(didn't help), but when posted on DA didn't get much of a response from anybody, kinda ignored.
Don't know why I didn't post it here before, I mean, it's a horse and this is FA, duh, should have been obvious to me.
Anyway here it finally be.

Hmmm, good question, wish I had a really clever answer about the meaning of colors but really it was just instinctive choice.
I started with a photo of a white horse for reference and found this blue-ish purple to have a nice look (have always had a preference for blue)and when it came to the background I played with different colours till I found this red one that seemed to compliment the blue nicely.
Really I just kinda make my stuff up as I go along, but thank you for the question.
