Anyone heard of chameleon pigments? This spring I ordered some, just to experiment! I just love this stuff, the two kinds which I bought go from copper to green-gold and purple-blue to purple-red. They shift depending on the angle of lighting. I've been experimenting all summer with how to keep that color shift nice and sharp, how they interact with regular pigments, and what kind of finish I can use. Now to figure out how to display these. It's really hard to show on camera, and even in life the best lighting to see the shift is under natural sunlight, (and it is beautiful under natural sunlight!). Anyways, here are some previews of the paints I've done so far. In the future, I'm hoping to get a few more of these pigments, it would be awesome to see a whole rainbow of this kind of color! :D

Nnnnghghhhfhffff that hippocampus is so freaking gorgeous, and its even more stunning in person.
Btw this is my iridescent quagga character I told you about when we were talking about the paints: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5382110/
I can only imagine those paints would be so super fun to see how she'd turn out, aaaah someday, someday

Oh my, I imagine these paints would work incredibly well for your character, that would be so awesome to see done someday! Also, I can't recall for the life of me if I ever posted the sketches for the newer sculpt I'm working on, but I'm thinking the new sculpt fits her perfectly too :D
Those pigments look like fun! I've been thinking of playing with the pearl-ex duo tones but I haven't had time. I may have to look into playing around with these when I get the opportunity, because this is right up my alley! So thanks! :)
Apologies (and no worries) if you don't feel like answering, but I'm curious, what varnish/topcoats do you use? I've been using the liquitex gloss, but it seems too thin for my taste, it wears through to paint in some spots after a couple of months of heavy wear even with obsessive (6 coats+) varnishing. Clear resins seem like such a pain...

Yeah, if you enjoy experimenting with some of the odd pigments, I think you'd have a ton of fun with these! I've been going back and fourth between the Krylon clear glaze (comes in a spray) and the Liquitex gloss. The bats have the Krylon, but the Hippocamp has the Liquitex gloss since I wanted specific areas to be glossy, plus I figured it's going to be rare that people are handling him.
