I live in Essex County MA, where the Gerry Mander was invented.
There was a politician here, Elbridge Gerry who I believe was governor of MA. Last name is
actually pronounced with a soft G (like the g in "Guy", not the one in "fridge"). There's a VFW
in Marblehead MA known as the "Gerry 5".
Towns in what is now pretty much the 6th Congressional District were drawn in such a way that they
resembled a monster or some kind of critter

The homeless guy is really topical again.
During the depression, "Hoovervilles" were shanty towns of homeless people.
A particularly large one in CA was a semi-official place for the towns
to dump/relocate homeless people, 'till it was demolished.
In some countries, being homeless is now a crime.
NPR recently reported about an effort to have truly accessible public toilets
and how businesses are all NIMBY: not in my back yard.
With the current real estate climate and every inch of land belonging to someone,
there's no place left for homeless folks to go.
