Timberwolf was originally a song I dreamed about.
Back in my dream, I went to a music shop, and an imaginary song from the band Dire Straits was displayed on the TV. It was called Timberwolf.
It rarely occurs that I cannot remember my dreams and their details, but this time I completely forgot about the tune of the song when I woke up.
I then (re)composed Timberwolf, as a spiritual tribute of that forever lost song. This one took me 3 months of work.
Timberwolf is an original theme song composed and arranged by myself.
Do not forget to fave, comment, share, kiss, lick, or whatever! ~<3

Glad you hear to know my frustration, haha!
So far, there's only one song I dreamed of, which I clearly recalled when I woke up. But I want it to be worth it, so I take my time!
And thanks for the sweet compliment.
As for the vocals, it's something many people suggest me, but for the time being, it's a desire of mine to do instrumental-only compositions...
Maybe someday!

Thank you sooo much Zidders, for the amazingly kind compliments! It truly means a lot to me.
I compose my songs without saving some space for a vocal line, so I have no idea if such a modest piece of music can somehow be sung!
But, if you wish to try and write a few words for it, I'd be delighted to have a look!

This has plenty of space for vocals it's just a matter of me not knowing how to write for music. This feels like it should tell a story. I was thinking of talking about how wolves used to be so numerous in the past, and how they've declined in numbers but the few who remain continue to live their lives the way their forebears lived them. Mark writes such beautiful music but it's not pretentious. It's very blue collar romance. I want to keep that feel.
I can't promise anything will come of this but at the same time I can't stop listening to this.

There's no such thing as "writing for music", there's only lyrics that come from the heart.
If that song inspires you something, do not hesitate and have a go, it can only be worth it. I believe any kind of lyrics should fit.
I didn't compose that song with a story in mind, just a couple emotions, wild inspiration, and no real aim at the end. I even dislike having to put an end to my music, so I always take forever to finish my songs. x)
And you're right, Knopfler has no pretention, he's always been one of the most humble musicians I know, and that is precisely one of the many reasons why he inspires me (us) so much!

I dunno. I think that there are plenty of songs out there where the lyrics were inspire by a melody. After all you can write music to go with lyrics, why not the other way around? Most of my poems are written to a melody or have been inspired by this or that piece of music.
I think you can't force lyrics to fit a melody though. So far the well is pretty dry so while I had the best intentions it might not happen..but it's there in the back of my mind. I'll let the sands sift over it for awhile. Maybe a pearl will form.

And it's not unrealistic. Despite all the fancy playing he can do Mark's playing is all about emotion and feel, and you've got that. You put so much heart into every note. I'm in love with your playing and tone. I think you're a fantastic guitar player. Certainly one of the best I've found here on FA and I listen to a lot of folks. I'm not saying that to fluff you up or anything. It's just the truth.
Well, if you wanted to make me blush bright red, and leave me speechless... then you won!
Honnestly, I'm not even sure what to say. I could thank you for ages, but I don't even know if I deserve such compliments!
You're one of my most supportive listeners, and trust me, you motivate me like no one else! Mark is my number one inspiration, I learnt guitar with his songs, I could play almost any of them, but when I'm left with one of my own compositions, I feel like composing something sweet and soft. I think it's harder to achieve than actual solos of doom... And I like challenges! *laughs*
Jokes apart... Thank you. Like, really.

You don't owe me a thing. It's easy for me to compliment. You're the one who put the real effort in here. I'm just doing my best to hopefully repay some of the kindness you've paid me by giving me something to smile about. It would be cool if you loved yourself as much as you could but then hopefully you know you're worth it. I've seen how you are to folks who comment (and to me) and you seem like a decent person. Decent folks like you are what makes some of the crap humanity hands out worth dealing with.
As far as guitar goes I think there are some folks who are passionate about their instrument to the point where a great deal of skill comes in to play and then there are folks who take a more laid back approach. Some people get lucky and manage to combine both and then some folks stick to the basics. Some go for wank and some for feel and some folks just want to make war with it. All's fair in love and tone.

I found myself listening to this while I was working on art tonight. I can't get over how much you captured that 80's sound. Every time I hear it I'm filled with so many memories of the kind of music I loved growing up. This is such a beautiful song and I just had to say thank you again for creating it.
It's funny you mention the 80's sound, because I personally feel like I'm losing that 80's spirit that inspires me.
Yet I must admit, by making these songs, I aim to touch people with the same music tastes, who could interpret music the same way I do and decypher the hidden emotions. It seems like I found such a person in you.
I really appreciate the compliments, and it should only be fair if I thanked you too, because my music would be nothing without passionate listeners like you. ;)

Music tastes change. Odds are once I start devoting myself to learning guitar like I have art & writing I'll move beyond the hair metal stuff I goof around with now. I figure after playing 28 years it's about time I learned how. What matters most is that you're following your heart no matter where it leads you. Hopefully it leads you to happiness. In the mean time I'm more than happy to enjoy where your inspiration is currently leading you (and more than happy to offer sincere encouragement as often as possible!).
