Dante (20XX) always did what he needed to in order to survive. Growing up on one of the lawless outer worlds, Dante learned that one has to fight to survive even if at the expense of others. A skilled mercenary and assassin, Dante eventually caught the eye of the Corporation who at the time were having issues with those who did not see their activities as "right". Signing with the Corporation, Dante's every need was met. He had money, a large estate on the upper levels, and all the authority one could enjoy. All of this for the small cost of infiltrating resistance groups and systematically taking them down. The goals and opinions of these groups were of no concern to Dante. As long as he survived, everyone else could rot for all he cared. Or at least, that is what he thought then.
When signing a contract with the devil, always be sure to read the fine print. Dante continued to take down both head members and entire groups for the Corportation, but more were popping up. Concerned for the seat of power they had secured for themselves, the Corporation decided a stronger approach was needed. One day, when Dante was called in for a meeting with the head members of the corporation, he was quickly ambushed and drugged by their private security force. The black feline was then taken to a lab tens of miles underground to be apart of a new project designed to battle the threat of the resistance. Project Tiamat.
For a very long time, the Corportation had been working on various projects. One such project brought about the creation of the Daemons. Creatures of pure data and energy, they were able to travel through the deepstream connecting every computer on the planet to spy and take control over any systen. At first they were a rousing success. But eventually various groups from hackers to the technomancer order began destroying these creatures whenever hired. For some time, the scientists of the corporation tried to bring these creatures into the real world, but the data bodies broke down as soon as they stepped into the physical plain. Then came project Tiamat, which attempted to allow daemons into the world by bonding them to already living flesh bodies.
Subjects were attached to various machinery designed to convert the daemon to genetic code and then be injected into the body. The process was painful beyond all reason and the use of anesthetics was found to have a negative effect on the melding process. For days, screams of agony were held behind sound proof doors as the subject's bodies were forcefully altered and mutated. One by one, they would fall silent as their bodies ultimately rejected the daemon and perished. For more times than he could count, Dante almost reached that point. He teetered back and forth on the edge of oblivion as his body was broken down, reconstructed, and broken down again in a vicious cycle. At times he would stick a foot out over the emptiness, ready to accept his fate. But ultimately he would take it back, as the words of his father would ring true.
"Live Dante. Live."
After three days, the screaming stopped. The lab was opened to find Dante the sole survivor of project Tiamat. Bonded with a feline Daemon, Dante was given fantastical powers including heightened physical attributes, the ability to fire energy blasts, turn invisible, physically enter the deepstream, and many others. All of this was at a cost though, as his body was still trying to reject the daemon. Through the work of a recently acquired doctor, the Corportation had the means to keep Dante alive indefinitely so long as he continued to assassinate the designated targets. Dante agreed to these conditions of course. Years after, Dante would continue to hunt down targets and deal with them swiftly and skillfully. With a 100% kill rate, if was easy for the higher ups to trust him. Dante wanted that trust more than anything. He wanted to keep them close, where he could keep an eye on them. Sometimes, crucial information about the whereabouts of these members would appear to the resistance from time to time. Sometimes, the higher corporation members would be found dead even after the resistance was run off. In the end, no one even looked at Dante with a curious glance. He was their little soldier, their knife in the dark. What they didn't know was to whom the knife was pointed at.
