Back in the 90's my high school used to have these huge assemblies where Coke or Pepsi would come in and set up three huge movie screens. We'd spend the next hour watching scenes from movies & rock videos edited into hour long presentations telling us how great drinking their crap was.
Heck my 1992 graduating class yearbook was titled "You Got The Right Book, Baby! Aha!" after a famous ad campaign from that year. Nowadays kids can't even bring a sandwich from home without worrying about setting off the pb&j detector. This pic is pretty close to how my high school graduation picture looked. This one's tailored to accent the Diet Pepsi background as well as my Van Halen tie.
Man..I was obsessed with EVH back then.

Yup. It was all cloaked in a positive message. "Don't do drugs" "Don't give up" "Don't bully others" but it was interspersed with so much whiz bang about how cool it was to be yourself as long as it included drinking Pepsi that the only thing I remembered about it until I read this http://slog.thestranger.com/2007/06.....need_some_help was that it was a Pepsi thing.
Hell...this is the only place where I've found anyone mentioning it. I hate when I'm one of the only people who remembers stuff like this.

That is way too strange! I graduated high school in 1967 and we never had any of that kind of stuff. (Thank you bunny Goddess!!) Of course back then school was just about getting you some book learning. Nobody worried about the drugs, cutting, suicide etc. Oh, they did try to get us not to smoke. But didn't work at it too hard. The whole scene was unbelievably different back then. Much better if you ask me. I'd hate to be school age nowadays....or have school age kids. The bullshit they have to put up with is unbelievable!
I was born in 1974, as well...but was held back a year or so before I started school (my mom wanted me and my younger sister to go to school at the same time and be able to always walk to school/walk home together). Heh...how's it feel to be 40 for you? It feels weird to see "40" when I write down my age, since I don't feel like it!
Same here. Most of the folks I hang out with/talk to are younger than I am. The average are in their early to mid 20's save for a few exceptions. Most days I feel young but then there are days where I feel so out of touch but I don't let it get to me. I tend to be pretty good at rolling with it.
I've only seen a couple episodes (I don't have cable t.v.)...some are good and some kind of annoy me, but I wasn't a big "Powerpuff Girls" fan. *chuckle* I'm actually more a fan of the original 2 t.v. specials, as opposed to the t.v. series itself...those two specials were really good, with an interesting background I would've seen further developed. But I suppose the t.v. show was done in 15 minute segments that was paired with other short Hasbro shows at the time...and even doing many episodes, it's probably harder to put a whole universe together when the goal is to sell toys!
