Florida is getting -really- strict on its exotic laws though. It's nearly impossible unless you're rich enough to own your house and land too.
Here in MA most people have dogs half the size of a lion which could crush a person's bones if they bit, and easily kill someone. But we can't have foxes or skunks, two small and relatively harmless animals...
