They look like mates, but they keep a comfortable space between each other. Not to distance themselves, but to give one another space to spread their wings. They don't need to reassure the other that they love them, because that's a given. I notice that a lot when I see an old couple walking down the street. It's sweet. In comparison, I've noticed that some younger, newer couples tend to walk more inwards together, almost like an arrow.
