For the record, I've never given a flying fuck about the series canon, i just want fun gaems where i can go fast. the character design is gross, but what bothers me about this shit, is it seems to be focused more on jokes for 3 year olds instead of solid gameplay.

Character limbs are SO skinny too. From the American team I'd heard the game as well as the new show described as such:
Its like an alien tried to cross the randomness of 'Adventure Time' with the Saturday morning cartoon without being able to understand what made either series great. I think Japanese developers have kind of stepped back from this one and said "no...we're...going to do our own thing here...." that's not good either.
Knuckles isn't a bad redesign really, but weird things like bandages for Tails' shoes or a bandana to show 'Sonic's adventurous spirit' I don't know about this one, just going to sit back and watch the fireworks I think.

Well it is based on a currently unreleased new TV series, so that would explain why it has jokes for three year olds. With that said, being for kids isn't (and has never been) a good excuse for bad writing.
Anyway, an acquaintance of mine played a demo kiosk of the game and just found the experience highly depressing, and for the record, said acquaintance usually likes games that are pretty terrible. That's not a good sign.

Yeah, great, right, call me out on being corrupt and make several assumptions about me just because I used the words "pile of shit" when referring to a game. Are you always this hostile when somebody has a different opinion than yours?
Let's get something straight here: I'm not angry about the game or the series, and it doesn't bother me that they're trying something different. The Sonic series could use a kick in the pants, and if the game and series are terrible, I just won't play/watch them. But, I still think that regardless of what audience you're aiming for, you should try to make the best product possible, especially if you're a professional game design company.

The Sonic series could use a kick in the pants, and if the game and series are terrible, I just won't play/watch them. I'm gonna have to actually get my hands on it before i can put it in the pile of good or bad.
So far it looks like the folks behind R+C had another co-op game in the works, it got canned, Sega picked them up to try and get a "western' idea of what could be done with the series, and the people went and said "lets Reskin R+C with the sonic characters! NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW!"
but I knew.
thankfully I like R+C.
i did not like heroes, I liked Shadow, I played 06 and it was so glitchy and horrible i didn't stick through it, I liked unleashed but it's hard as hell to get back into it if you take a break from it for too long. Generations is fucking wonderful. Sonic 4 ep 1 has fucked physics, but isn't terrible. Sonic 4 ep 2 is awesome and having ep 1 and 2 together let you play as metal Sonic, so i had an orgasm there.
Lost world, despite a different approach, felt rather meh, and collecting the red ring stars borders from "that was so easy" to "how is any sane person supposed to get that and remain a sane individual?"
