Sonic Kids: The Good Life
Part 2: Day in the Life of Tails
One hour earlier, at a penthouse that was right down the street from the royal palace of Mobotropolis, the Prower household had been going through another typical day. Inside the house, in the living room, sat a brown female fox by the name of Rosemary Prower, who was sitting on the couch with her young, two year old fox kit by the name of Miles Prower. Rosemary was currently wearing a long purple dress that covers most of her body, while Miles was sitting there on the couch looking back at her while wearing nothing but a white diaper and some white socks on his feet.
At this moment, Rosemary was currently running her son Miles through an activity that she has been doing with him for a while now, that they both seem to enjoy, showing him flashcards of different objects around the house and town to try and help him learn his letters and a few new words. Miles actually had a pretty good vocabulary for his age and Rosemary was very anxious to help him learn more when she discovered that he may like to learn new things. This became even clearer when the young fox kit began thinking of it as a game instead of a learning exercise.
“Alright dear, what’s this and what letter does it start with?” asks Rosemary as she holds up a picture of a chair in front of Miles.
The yellow colored fox looks at the picture only for a moment before speaking up to his mother. “Chair and starts with C.” he says to her happily upon his answer.
“Very good Miles. Now, what’s this one?” she asks holding up another card, this time the picture on the card was that of a door.
“That a door and it start with D.” says Miles happily answering up right away once again.
“Well aren’t you the little smart one.” says Rosemary as she reaches out and rubs Miles on the head, which immediately gets a happy giggle out of him that he was doing well at their little game.
Rosemary enjoyed this as well, in that she was helping her son get more familiar with several everyday objects, which for someone his age, which actually quite a bit advanced as he was learning more and more about the things around him and also what letters they start with. It wasn’t like she was just doing the same items every day either. She changes up the cards constantly to try and make sure Miles wasn’t simply memorizing the cards she was showing her and actually learning about them instead.
“Alright, another one dear. Try this one.” she says holding up yet another card to Miles, this time it was a picture of an egg.
Miles had to look at it for a moment, since at first it just looked like a circle on the card, but after figuring it out, he smiles and looks up to his mother once again. “That an egg and it starts with E?” he asks questioningly just to make sure he had gotten that one correct instead of just assuming it like the other two before it.
“Very good Miles! You are on the ball today.” says Rosemary happily putting the card down and giving Miles a good excited praise to make sure he knew he was doing good and making her proud.
It really looked to be working as well, as Miles looked very happy to be getting answers right from the cards his mom was showing him. He was looking ready to answer another card she was about to show him, when the door to their home makes some noises and someone begins to come inside. This immediately gets both of their attention as they turn to the door just in time to see Miles’ father, Amadeus Prower, walk into the house still wearing his military generals’ uniform that he wears most of the time during the day. Seeing him walk inside does make Miles’ eyes light up as he doesn’t get to see his dad during the day that often, unless it was the weekend, so this was a big treat.
“Daddy’s home!” Amadeus calls out to let both of them know who it was that was coming into the door, even though the two foxes could clearly see who it was coming inside.
“Well look at who it is Miles, your daddy’s home early today.” says Rosemary smiling as Miles was already turning his attention away from the cards now and towards his father, who he was definitely excited to see.
“Yup, I decided to call a free time lunch today to allow the men to go home and see their families and for me to come home and see you guys as well.” says Amadeus as he kicks his boots off near the door before heading over towards the couch to be Rosemary and Miles. He definitely was looking forward to coming home and getting some time to spend with his wife and son when he wasn’t completely tired out from working most of the day.
“Hi Daddy!” calls out Miles happily when he sees his dad starting to come over to the couch to sit with the two of them.
Amadeus makes his way over to the couch where he does immediately pick up the little fox kit to give him a good hug and to make sure he gives him some good attention as well when first greeting him. “Hello there my little soldier. You been being a good boy for your mother?” he asks looking down at the fox kit who immediately grabs onto his dad’s shirt when he was able to hold onto him now.
“I being very good like you say to daddy.” says Miles happily to his dad when he replies back to him. The young fox does usually make sure he is as good as he can be, but of course he wasn’t perfect. Most of this was due to his age of only being two, so he was still occasionally getting into things he maybe should be. For the most part though, Miles was a good boy.
“Good to hear. So what have you two been doing while I’ve been out today?” asks Amadeus curiously.
“I’ve just been going over some of Miles’ flash cards after he finished playing with his blocks after having breakfast.” says Rosemary going over what she has been doing with Miles this morning since Amadeus has left for work this morning.
“Good to hear you are still going over those card things with him. How is he doing at them?” he asks curiously. Amadeus hadn’t been around for a while when Miles was doing these exercises as this was something Rosemary often did for the boy during the day while Amadeus was at work.
“Let me show you.” says Rosemary as she reaches over and picks up one more card and motions for Miles to look back to her once again. “Oh Miles, show daddy what this is.” says Rosemary holding up the next card that she was about to show him before Amadeus walked in.
When she holds up the next card, Miles looks to see what it was. This picture was picture of a simple white feather. Miles does have to look at it for a moment before smiling when he recognizes what it is. “That a feather that start with F.” he says happily looking up to his parents to make sure he was right.
Amadeus looks quite impressed when he sees this, since the little one was actually right. “Wow, pretty good Miles. I think we might have a smart one on our hands here.” he says petting the little kit on the head which immediately gets a happy giggle out of him. Miles was just happy that this game was making them happy, despite the fact he found the game fun on his own.
“He has been doing pretty well at this lately. I would say he is pretty bright yes. He finds this fun and actually thinks it is a game that he calls picture.” explains Rosemary as she tells Amadeus a bit about the game that they play every day. She doesn’t play it with him all day long, but she does usually encourage him to want to do a few a day just to keep fresh at it.
“Good to hear. So has everything else been going alright today dear?” asks Amadeus curious about how Rosemary has been doing now instead of how their son had been doing. He couldn’t forget to check in on her, since she was often times stuck here with the boy all day long while he worked.
“Oh everything is just fine dear. A bit tired at the moment trying to keep up with Miles and his early hours, but other than that, I’m doing alright.” says Rosemary yawning just a little bit, but at the same time, she clearly looked to be trying to keep herself awake and aware as she couldn’t afford to fall asleep or let her guard down when looking after a two year old.
“Are you sure dear? You definitely look tired and like you could use a break.” says Amadeus looking a little concerned for his wife now. He knows her job of watching after a two year old was just as tricky as his job of looking after soldiers most of the day. While his job was more physically demanding, her job was a bit more mental as she had to stay observant at times of what the fox was doing so that he didn’t get into anything that could get him hurt or into anything that would cause damage to anything else.
“Well I could use a break yes, but when I have to keep a look out for Miles, I really can’t afford to let him go unobserved for too long. Miles may be a good boy, but he is still a curious little boy, and he could end up getting into all sorts of things if he wasn’t supervised at least somewhat.” says Rosemary explaining why she hasn’t had a break in a little while. It was pretty understandable though. Rosemary was a bit overprotective at times of Miles and does try her best to try and keep a good eye on him so that he doesn’t get into any bad trouble. Yet, by doing this, it does tend to wear the female fox out after a while.
“Well, why don’t I take Miles with me when it is time for me to go and I’ll drop him off at Jules’ home for the day? Miles does seem to get along well with the Hedgehog’s son Sonic after all. As long as Bernie is alright with it, you could get some rest that you look like you could use.” says Amadeus offering to take Miles off of Rosemary’s hands for a few hours.
Rosemary does look a little concerned with this, but at the same time, she really could use the rest. She had already been up since six this morning and she could definitely use a nap. “Well, I guess is Bernie is alright with it, then you can do that. I can go pick him up later if you wish dear?” she asks wondering if she should go get Miles herself when it was time to bring him home.
“Dear, I’ll take care of that. You just go get some rest. I know I came home for lunch, but now I’m more concerned with you than I am my stomach. I can get something to eat later. I want you get some rest. I’ll get Miles’ dressed and taken care for now. It’s the least I can do for you.” says Amadeus smiling while being a bit firm at the same time. He was just concerned for his wife’s health, so he definitely wanted her to get some rest so that she didn’t collapse from exhaustion at some point.
Miles was staying quiet during this as he wasn’t going to get into the middle of this. He was fine with just observing and listening in, as it helped him sort of study the situations a bit more. Also by staying quiet, people would sometimes forget he was there for a bit and just keep talking and not start whispering a lot. Keeping secrets from a young fox kit was rather difficult though, since Miles does have wonderful hearing with the big fox ears on his head.
Rosemary eventually takes a big breath of air and smiles to Amadeus nodding. “You’re right dear. Alright, you have Miles for the rest of the day. I really could use that nap you are mentioning. Are you sure you are alright with this? I can still make you something before you go.” says Rosemary still a bit concerned for her husband, as she does want to help him out the best she can.
“Nono. I’m fine dear. You go lie down, and I’ll take care of Miles. The boy is in good hands with me you know.” says Amadeus leaning over and kissing Rosemary on the head, which does make her smile in return.
“Hehe, yes dear. You keep a good eye on him. He has plenty of clothes in his room.” she says before starting to get up from the couch. Before she leaves though, she does turn back around to Miles with a smile.
“You be good for you daddy now alright Miles?” she asks the young fox who immediately turns his attention to his mom after she stood up and begins to speak to him.
“Yes Mommy. I be really good.” he says nodding to her with a smile to show that he understood her and that he was going to be good for his dad. Miles was already pretty well behaved anyway, but Rosemary does usually like to remind him just in case.
“That’s my boy. I’ll see you tonight.” says Rosemary kissing the little fox kit on the head before turning to begin heading towards her bedroom now. She really was going to take up that offer to get a nap. She hadn’t gotten a lot of sleep last night and she could use rest, even if it was for just a few hours.
Miles and Amadeus watch her leave the room before Amadeus turns to Miles with a smile as he rubs on his head. “Alright then my little soldier, would you like to go get dressed and go see your little pal Sonic?” asks Amadeus curiously, though having a feeling of what the answer likely already was to the question.
Hearing the name Sonic, the little fox’s eyes do light up a bit as he smiles up to his father happily. “Yeah! Want to go see Sonic!” says Miles happily when he hears the mention of his favorite playmate.
Despite the two years age difference, Sonic and Miles, the two of them were great playmates together and almost like brothers in a way as well. While Miles may have a higher status than Sonic does, the kids really don’t care anything about that sort of stuff and only see each other as playmates and good friends. Amadeus didn’t care about this either as he wanted his son to just be happy. Sonic was the son of one of his best soldiers as well, so he was fine with them all being friends with each other.
“Then let’s go get you dressed and we will make the journey across town to the Hedgehog’s place.” says Amadeus happily as he reaches over and scoops up the fox kit into his arms so that he could take Miles to his room to get him changed into some clothes so they could get going.
Miles immediately holds onto his dad as he is picked up. He does turn his head to see where they are going, even though he already knew where they were going. He liked being carried around by people as his tails start wagging as his dad gets up from the couch and begins to make his way down the hall to where Miles’ bedroom was located. Amadeus did see Rosemary beginning to head into their bedroom, which was right across the hall from Miles’ bedroom as he was making his way down the hall. They both do give her a wave as she heads into the bedroom and shuts the door to try and get herself some rest.
Amadeus and Miles instead walk through the door on the opposite side of the hall, which leads into Miles’ room. The room was a light blue color and had several pictures of planes and clouds all over the walls as well. The Prowers had long ago discovered that Miles seemed to like playing with plane toys, so they let him pick out what he had wanted on the walls of his room and this is was he had picked out for the design. There was a yellow crib in one corner of the room, a toy box, a dresser, a closet door, a play mat in the middle of the room, and a changing table was sitting next to the fox’s crib as well.
Amadeus heads right for the changing table, once he was in the room, where he immediately sits Miles down onto it when he gets over to it. “Alright, let’s get you dressed my little man. Do I need to check your diaper first though?” asks Amadeus just to be sure before he goes to the trouble of getting his son dressed and then needing to immediately stop or undress him to change his diaper.
“Nu uh. No need diaper change.” he says shaking his head immediately to his dad. Amadeus could tell from the straight look that Miles was giving him from the response that he was likely telling the truth. He could usually tell if Miles was fibbing about needing a change, since he would usually not look him straight in the eye when saying so, or he would stutter or be slow about responding.
“Alright then, let’s see what mom has for you in the closet here, then we go head into town, get a quick bite to eat and head to the hedgehog’s place.” says Amadeus as he turns away from Miles and heads to the closet nearby so that he could see what kids clothes were hanging up ready to go for Miles. Most of the clothes that were in the closet were for when Miles would go out and about. Clothes inside the dresser for staying in the house or for bed time usually.
Amadeus didn’t even have to look very long as he spots his son’s favorite shirt hanging right inside the door when he opens the closet door. It was a blue t-shirt with a plane right on the front of it. He didn’t even have to think twice about this one as he knows Miles won’t give him any trouble if he suggests he wears this shirt.
Amadeus turns around to show his son the shirt with a smile. “I think someone will wear this shirt yes?” he asks happily as he shows the shirt to Miles.
Miles immediately nods to this with a smile. “Uh huh. My plane shirt is nice.” says Miles happily already putting his arms up knowing that was what he had to do to get the shirt placed onto him.
This was something Amadeus was pretty thankful for as it made his job so much easier. He was easily able to get over to Miles, take the shirt of the hanger, and then slide it over his son’s head with no trouble at all. He only had to give it a small tug to get it into place before taking a step back and looking his boy over.
“Not bad. Now, are you wanting some shorts or pants today Miles or are we going with just diaper today?” asks Amadeus leaving that choice up to Miles. Miles was still plenty young enough to walk around open diaper and it be perfectly acceptable, so neither parent really bothered making the fox wear pants over the diaper unless he really needed to do so.
“No pants.” he says shaking his head immediately to this. If he didn’t have to wear pants, Miles preferred to not have to wear pants. He preferred going open diaper, since it was a lot cooler for him having so much fur all over him.
“Alright then, so we will just need to get you some sneakers and we are ready to go.” says Amadeus smiling as this did simply things quite a bit and speeds up their departure as well. He knows they may have to wait a little bit to pick up something to eat on their way to the Hedgehog’s home in the main residential part of town, when they live in the nicer part of town right down from the palace.
Amadeus was about to head to the closet once again when he sees a pair of kids sneaker sitting right next to the door to the room. Rosemary had likely placed the shoes there for easy access for the next time Miles needed to head out of the house. Though keeping them in the closet was neater, keeping the shoes next to the door was a lot more convenient for the parents who were getting him ready to head out for the day.
“Well that’s convenient.” says Amadeus as he walks over and picks up the pair of kids sneakers after which, he heads right back over towards Miles, holding them up to allow him to see them.
“Hold your feet out for dad now Miles.” says Amadeus as he kneels slightly so that he could get to Miles foot level to where he would be able to slide the shoes on for him.
Miles nods and immediately holds his feet out for his dad who starts to slip the shoes onto him one at a time. Neither shoe had laces, they were both Velcro shoes, so they were easy to loosen up and tighten up for Miles as he needs them. With Miles being so cooperative and obedient for his dad, Amadeus was able to get the shoes onto Miles socked feet and have them fastened with no trouble at all.
“That’s my boy. All done. Why don’t we get going then? I see your mother has packed your diaper bag for you already, which I’m not surprised about, so I think we are ready to go if you are?” asks Amadeus happily as he reaches down next to the changing table to where an already pre-packed diaper bag was sitting on the floor.
“Hehe, let’s go daddy!” says Miles excitedly showing that he was ready to go as well. He wanted to hurry up and get to Sonic’s, so that the two of them could play together.
Amadeus couldn’t help but chuckle at this and nods in return to him. “Very well then. Let’s get going little soldier.” says Amadeus as he picks up Miles into his arms and turns to leave Miles’ room so that they can get going now.
Amadeus didn’t bother stopping to say good-bye to Rosemary as he exits the room as he figures she was either already asleep or just starting to get settled in to get her nap and he didn’t want to disturb her. She needed the rest, so he was just going to head on out and let her be. Miles was staying quiet as well as he was being carried down the hall towards the front door at the end of it. Both tails on the fox kit were wagging like crazy as he knew they were about to head outside. All kids liked to go outside, and Miles was no different.
Amadeus heads over to the door, where he does begin to open it to head outside. He does lock it behind him as he and Tails head outside, so that Rosemary wouldn’t have to worry about anyone possibly coming in to disturb her or mess with her. It wasn’t like they needed to worry though because of where they live. They live right down the street from the royal palace, so there were plenty of guards and patrols in this area to discourage people from doing bad things in this part of town.
Amadeus does begin to make his way down the street once he and Tails were out of the house. He does move quickly once he was on his way, since he wants to get to a local diner that is down at the other end of this road in the main part of town. It was a popular location for all mobians in the city, so it was occasionally hard to get inside and get a seat if they were too busy. Amadeus’ status did help him a bit there, as people did tend to want to make one of their commanding generals happy, but he does usually try and get people to try and treat him as normal as they could.
As the two foxes were making their way down the street, the crowds were starting to pick up, as it was midday at the moment and other people were having the same idea as he was. Mobians were beginning to look for lunch during their time off if they weren’t going to get it from home. Most people do notice Amadeus walking down the street and do occasionally acknowledge him with a wave or a look, but most people just try and let him be or try and stay out of his path. It may look a bit different to see one of the commanders here in the city walking down the street with a little kid and a diaper bag, but this was the commanders own son. He didn’t care one bit if it likely made him not look as tough or commanding as he did when he didn’t have Tails with him.
Amadeus could see the diner up ahead of him as they were starting to head the main square of town. There was a huge square street in the middle part of the business area of the city, where a large open park sits right in the center surrounded by businesses on the outer area of the square. If you wanted to relax, or let your kids play, the large park in the center square was a nice place to let them run around. The park was also were local festivals were usually held as well. Then the several dozen businesses’ in the area all benefit from the great location and are usually some of the best places to shop in the entire city. The diner sits right on the corner of the street that leads up towards the palace and where Amadeus and the other upper class Mobians live.
As Amadeus was beginning to approach the diner though, he does eventually get waved to by someone with a familiar sounding voice. Amadeus couldn’t see who it was at first, but eventually, the person walking towards him was easily recognizable. This person was an adult male coyote wearing a general’s uniform like Amadeus’ own uniform, but unlike the one the fox wears, this one has even higher ranking markings on it. The person waving for his attention was the one person that was higher ranking than Amadeus, other than the Acorn family themselves, Armand D’ Coolette.
Armand was standing there still in his generals’ uniform as well, which mainly differs from Amadeus’ uniform because of the additional ranking markings and medals on it, as well as the cap he wears to show that he is the top commanding general of the Royal Army, besides the king himself. Armand has a tiny mustache that droops down from either side from the bottom of his nose as well as a as skinny beard that is very well groomed.
“Oh! Armand! I’m surprised to see you out of the palace at the moment.” says Amadeus a bit surprised when he sees his commanding officer of all people when he was heading to get something to eat.
“Yes, well, I was out of the castle to come get a bite, while was doing some general supply gathering that I need for some things I’m working on in the castle. I didn’t trust one of the underlings there in the castle to go and get these things that I need, as I need them for my planning and they may get the wrong thing. I had just left the castle to come to this popular diner for lunch, but they were so busy that they said even for me I would need to wait a few minutes to get inside.” says Armand a bit surprised at that, but that did go to show how popular the place was that even the high generals needed to wait to get inside.
“Oh really? That’s where I was just heading. I guess my plans are changing if they are already that packed.” says Amadeus a little disappointed that his plans may have just been spoiled.
“Nonsense! You can join me for lunch my friend. Oh! And I just noticed you have your boy with you as well!” says Armand finally noticing the fox kit that was being carried in Amadeus’ arms at the moment.
“Ah yes. Me and Miles here were just going to get a bite to eat before I let him go stay at the Hedgehog residence for the day. Rosemary was a bit on the tired side, so I’m giving her a break.” says Amadeus in response
.
“Ah yes yes, very nice of you to help out your wife like that. I wish mine were still around so that I could do the same for her.” says Armand sighing just a bit.
Armand had lost his wife a few years back to a bad illness and it had hit him pretty hard right after it had happened. He was starting to do a lot better now, but when he sees other with their wives, it does still affect him a bit. It was just nowhere near as bad as it was right after it happened.
Amadeus does nod a bit to this, but he also tries to avoid the subject as well, as he doesn’t want Armand to stay on the topic for too long and end up upsetting himself. “Speaking of sons, where is your boy at?” asks Amadeus curiously.
“Oh right, Antoine. I left the boy in the castle to go play around and to play with the princess if she is available as well. He isn’t in training today, so I was just letting him have his fun today.” says Armand smiling as he begins to think of his son which he was so proud of and mentions all the time.
As they were talking at the moment, someone from the diner they were standing out in front of does wave to Armand to get his attention. “General! Your table is ready!” she calls out from the door before running back inside.
“Oh speak of the luck. Come on Amadeus, you and your boy come join me for lunch.” says Armand offering to bring the two foxes along with him. He would feel better eating with someone else anyway instead of on his own.
“Sure thing sir. Come on Miles, let’s head inside.” says Amadeus before following the coyote inside the busy diner.
It was pretty active and crowded once the three of them enter inside the diner. Every person inside was either: eating, waiting for food, or talking with other people around them at the moment. This was one of the best local food places and hang outs, so it was surprising to see it so crowded at lunch time like it was. There was one table towards the back that was right up against the windows that was empty and had the waitress that had just called out for Armand standing next to it. It looked like they had lucked out and gotten one of the window seats that look through the large glass window and out to the square around them. These were usually the most desired seats, so it was no surprised that Armand was given one of them when he had shown a desire to dine there.
“Such luck again! The best seat in the house.” says Armand as he takes a seat.
Amadeus did have to spend a bit more time before he could sit though as he had to inform a waitress to bring him over a high chair for Miles to sit at. The bench seats were much too tall for him to be able to see over the table and eat as he needs to. Once the three of them were in place, Armand and Amadeus on either side and Miles situated in his high chair at the front of the table in the aisle, the two generals begin to look at the menu as they continue to talk.
“So your boy Antoine is at the castle with the princess eh? I’m guessing things are going well with him?” asks Amadeus as he scans the menu for something for himself and something for Miles to eat.
“Ah yes. My boy is doing most excellent. His training is coming along great. He seems to like sword training, so on the days when he is under my care of training, that is usually what we are working on right now. I only give him a wooden sword right now, but he is picking it up surprisingly quickly.
“Heh, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised he is already taking a shining to the sword. Beside the fact he is a kid and kids like swords it seems, he is your boy and I’m sure you teach him well.” says Amadeus nodding to this.
“Thanks you Amadeus. I’m just glad he is taking a shining to something in this early training. I don’t want to push him too much yet, but he needs to start learning at some point.” says Armand liking the complement very much.
“I can tell your English is getting a lot better too Armand. You don’t make near as many mistakes as you did when you were came here back so many years ago.” says Amadeus happily to this.
It used to at times be a little hard to communicate with Armand right after he arrived here in Mobotropolis due to his heavy French accent and the many French words he would use that he picked up from growing up in the Mercia kingdom region. Armand had been practicing and learning English quite heavily after peace was established after the Great War, and it clearly showed as his language was so much easier to understand now.
“Thanks you. I am doing my best to try and get everything write these days. Good to know my words are much easier to understand now no? I wish I could say the same for my boy at times. Due to the French he learned from his mother many years ago, his accent is a bit heavier than I would care.” says Armand in return, but looking thankful for another compliment.
“Eh, the boy will learn in time. As long as he is understandable, I’m sure people won’t mind too much. He’s just picking it up due to his lineage I’m sure.” says Amadeus figuring that was likely why Armand’s boy had a bit of an accent just like he did when he first moved here.
“Yes yes, well, I still help him the best I can. It’s also why I try and keep him around the princess and other kids when I can. I would prefer he pick up the local talk and not stand out as much as he does when the way he talks. It has definitely helped, but it slow process.” says Armand.
As they were talking, the waitress does come back to the table to take their orders. They actually did both surprisingly pick out the meat sandwiches with all the toppings. Amadeus even ordered a kiddy one for Miles to eat at. Since they were both meat eating species, it wasn’t that surprising that they would all be getting something from the meat side of the menu and not from the vegi side.
“So how’s your boy been doing?” asks Armand looking at Tails was messing around with a piece of paper and a crayon that a waitress had given him when they had come to take their orders, much to Amadeus’ delight as it would keep the boy distracted and not bored while they were waiting for the food.
“He’s been doing alright. Rosemary tends to keep him busy at the house, by playing with him and teaching him some basic learning skills he will need. He seems to pick them up pretty fast as well. I do think he needs to get out a bit more though. That’s also why I’m taking him out to the Hedgehogs’ place, so he can socialize with some other kids more often.” explains Amadeus.
“A very good idea. Though she may mean well, the boy definitely needs to get out and socialize often if he is going to being a high up member of Mobotropolis society one day.” says Armand in complete agreement.
“Yeah, I know what you mean. He is happy being home with his mother though, so I don’t want to take that away either. Rosemary does keep teaching him things, which I’m very thankful for as well. He is way ahead of where I ever expected him to be at only two years old. Even I didn’t recognize my letters at two.” says Amadeus gladly admitting that, since that was impressive.
“He already knows his letters? Impressive. Guess you two have been doing something right, that for sure.” says Armand sounding pretty impressed that the little fox kit sitting in the high chair drawing next to them already knew that kind of stuff
“He surprises me constantly when I come home with the things he can do at times.” says Amadeus feeling a bit proud that his boy really was bright and good at picking up things rather quickly. Their family in the past had been known for scholars, so it may be returning here in young Miles.
As they were chatting, the food was already starting to arrive at the table. It had barely been five minutes before the waitress returns with their sandwiches in hand. They had most likely been rushed to get them to the important clients, so someone else was likely going to be waiting a few minutes longer for their own food. It wasn’t that surprising though, as keeping the two top generals in the kingdom happy was likely something to take into consideration, and the fact that if they liked eating there, it would possibly drum up more business for them in the future.
As Amadeus was starting to get the sandwich ready for Miles, so that he didn’t have to pick the entire thing up, he does notice what he had been doodling with the crayon and was a bit surprised. He had apparently been looking at the outside of the restaurant as they had been standing outside talking before, and had drawn a pretty nice representation of what the outside of the restaurant had looked like to his memory. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but for a two year old, it sort of caught Amadeus by surprise.
“And the boy does it again.” says Amadeus as he shows Armand what had caught his attention.
Even Armand had to admit that it wasn’t that bad for a little kid, showing him first hand that this little fox kit was talent when he wanted to be. “My my, I am very impressed young Miles.” says Armand honestly.
“Good one Miles, now enjoy your lunch.” says Amadeus as reaches out and pats Miles on the head happily, to which he gets a happy giggle back in return from Miles.
“If that boy is turning out stuff like that at his age, I’ll be surprised to see what he could possibly be doing by the time he is my boy’s age.” says Armand quite impressed by Miles’ little drawing.
“I guess we will have to see.” says Amadeus in agreement as he finally begins to eat his own meal now that Miles was taken care of.
Once the meals were in front of them, the three of them stay pretty quiet for the next few minutes as they enjoy their meat sandwiches. They didn’t disappoint either, as they were definitely some of the better ones that either of them had had in a while. That was saying a lot as well, considering the fact that the two of them do dine in the palace quite often, be it from the barracks cafeteria or at a formal dinner.
Once the three of them were done, they do look like they were getting ready to leave in a bit. They could just sit and continue to talk for a while knowing the two of them, but they were starting to get towards the latter half of the lunch hour, and while Armand’s errand was official business and he could spend time in town a bit longer, Amadeus was going to need to get back to the training barracks eventually to keep an eye on the men’s training.
“Well sir, that was a good meal. I’m glad we were able to get together like this outside of some formal dinner or official business.” says Amadeus as he reaches over to get just the tiny bit of food off of Miles’ face. Miles actually was a pretty neat eater, so it was an easy cleanup for Amadeus.
“Ah yes, it was very good food and good company. Don’t worry about the bill either, I’ve got it. It is the least I can do for you keeping me company while on my business out of the palace. I hope I can see you two again at some point.” says Armand smiling happily at this.
“I would hope so as well too sir. I had better get going anyway. I still need to drop Miles here off at the Hedgehogs and then I need to get myself back to the training barracks.” says Amadeus explaining what the rest of his day most likely was going to consist of.
Amadeus was more the field training officer for the general army soldiers, while Armand was in command of the royal palace guards and did a lot more tactical and political business with the king himself inside the palace. It wasn’t unusual that the two of them didn’t get to see each other that often.
“Very well. Have a good day you two. I see you soon!” he calls out waving after Amadeus had collected Miles from his high chair, putting him back into his arms to carry him around some more and began to turn to leave.
“See you soon sir!” calls out Amadeus over the noise of the diner before turning to head out the main door once again.
“Well Miles, that was fun and yummy I’m sure. Now, let’s get going once again to see your friend Sonic.” says Amadeus happily as they begin their walk once again.
“Hehe, going to see Sonic.” says Miles happily in response as the two of them head off on their walk.
Miles and Amadeus were now off to continue their day as the two of them now get to look forward to both play for the young Miles, and an interesting continuance to his working day for Amadeus. While it may not sound like fun to Amadeus, it was interesting and satisfying work that he loved and hoped he continued doing, so it was going to be a good day either way. The two of them now head off towards the Hedgehog household on the other side of town, where Miles would get to continue his interesting and fun day.
End of Part 2
And here we go with chapter two of my story. It took a bit for the picture to be finished, but hopefully it is worth the wait for you guys. As you can see here, this chapter introduces Tails and his family. There is going to be two more of these kind of chapters to come after this and then after that, the story should begin to get a bit more serious. Always a good idea to introduce all the characters and their new lives in these stories.
Enjoy the Stories people. =)
