I’m not feeling very well, so this is image is pretty thrown together, plus I haven’t really done lineless work like this before. I’d have loved to do something more detailed, especially do shading, etc, but ya, not up to it at this time. But I did want a companion pic!
Disappear
There once was a child full of curiosity. Her questions were endless, and exploring was her passion. She’d return home with glittering stones, creatures caught from the pond. There wasn’t much she was afraid of, instead things excited her. Strange, dangerous, unexplained things were full of interesting stories, and she had to know them.
She looked out her window at the snow softly falling to the ground, her back warm from the fireplace. Shouts could be heard in a distant room and she held back a sob. They were fighting again. It was almost every night now, one would say they needed to have a word with the other, they’d leave the room and the shouting would start. They felt that they saved her from this by leaving the room, but they won’t ever understand how hearing them feels. It is an indescribable feeling to hear people you love, people who care for you, lash at each other with words. You become terrified. She just wanted to disappear from this, now that the few good days they have are quickly ruined.
A light. Strange, they lived in the country side, no lights could be seen from neighbors here and no one would be out walking in this snow. This peeked her interested and she stared. It glowed faintly blue, and did not move. She didn’t understand what she was feeling, a mix of emotions jumbled inside her. Scared of the fighting, sad, curious and….longing? She needed to know what was out there.
She turned her head to the stairs and listened to the shouting still going on. She wasn’t suppose to leave the house at this time of night, but they’d never notice, she was invisible to them. Jumping off the couch she raced to the hall closet, slipping on her favourite red jacket over her nightgown and slipping on some warm, furred boots. She took a deep breath, opened the door, and stepped outside.
It was colder then she thought, wrapping her arms around herself and regretting coming out with bare legs. The fire was tempting, but she couldn’t go back in, she had to know what the light was. And so she stepped forward, her feet sinking into the deep snow. At first, she couldn’t find the light, disappointment filling her, until excitement took over and she says it again, a blurred image in the snow that fell faster, and faster. Her mind was playing tricks on her, it almost looked as though it was beckoning her, a feint outline around this light. She shook her head and continued on. The wind grew colder, and stronger, biting her cheeks. Step by step she got closer until she stood in front of it.
Confusion is what first hit her. The light had no source, it floated about her head, glowing blue. It was only about the size of her hand. And yet, she wasn’t afraid, she didn’t question how this could even happen. She could feel a tug at her chest, she had to touch it, to grab it and hold it into her hands. She reached out, stretching he body to reach it, her fingertips brushing slightly against it.
And she was gone.
Frantic screaming came from the house as they found no daughter waiting downstairs. Following the foot steps they found two boots, sticking out from the snow, clothing being pushed away by the wind. And two blue lights, floating away in the distance.

Reminds me of a RL disappearance case where i attended university. Guy in the 50's vanished. Foot prints went out into the snow and just stopped (one of the stories I've been told, but there is some question of that tale). No one has ever seen him again. http://www.charleyproject.org/cases.....en_ronald.html
