Background info (real): Sam’s family history goes all the way back to the colonial days of America, and his ancestors, his tree shows, were alive during the Revolution. He hasn’t determined which one was present at the battlefields at the time of the “shot heard ’round the world,” the gunshot that started the war and signaled the birth of the U.S. of A. He has a history degree from WU and also one in political science (he double majored in those two). He serves on Mayor Clarkson’s ethics panel, and voted “YES” on a vote that allowed the city to have its own minor league team. WU donated its old stadium, Wildcat Park, as a result and built a new one (banking on Cripto’s donations) for the university’s team (Wildcat Field). Sam has a brother, Jason, that helps him run the stadium and works as a beverage vendor. He frequently operates the scoreboard, which also has a clock; all numbers are displayed in traditional LED lighting, which experiments using multiple colors (red for the visitors, yellow for the home team, and bright green for the clock). “The traffic light trio was easier to use; there are no white or blue LED lights available,” Sam said to the press in an interview on the stadium’s opening. “Plus, it was the cheapest way to do it, but I like having more than one color.”

Sam has an Uncle Sam outfit and wears it on patriotic holidays and occasions, and has appeared in Independence Day parades alongside Leo the Patriotic Lion (whom was wearing the same outfit some years and his green band uniform other years).

Background info (fictional): The fictional red, white, and blue lion with the same name got the name due to the fact the real Sam wears the Uncle Sam outfits and has a huge attitude of patriotism. The character is the mascot of the baseball team (indeed, people wear the costume and parade around the stadium as the lion), and is seen in various animations depending on the game’s situation. (The most popular one is him blowing the bugle call into a bugle and then roaring as the screen shows the word “CHARGE!”) The fictional character is also in the works of starring in a new television cartoon and comic book series intended to further teach children about America’s history; in it, the lion plays a magical field drum (snare drum), fife, and bugle at various points, and concludes with a quote before marching along the path, away from the viewers, and playing a fife tune while doing so. The most common tunes selected so far have been “Yankee Doodle,” “The Girl I Left Behind Me,” and “Union Quick Step.”

The team’s colors are also red, white, and blue, to contrast with the white, gold, and green that WU uses. (Blue is the predominant jersey color for home games, and white is the predominant color for away games; the team name, player’s names, and numbers are in red on both occasions.)
