Godzillas 5: Animated Series Zilla
The year 1998 will probably never be soon forgotten by many Godzilla fans. The year they had been hoping to see their beloved monster hero make his big budget American debut... and instead got something incredibly different. What they got was an asexual mutated iguana who had no real atomic breath, and was vulnerable to various military weapons they had grown up seeing Godzilla usually shrug off, if not ignore all together.
Needless to say, many fans were PISSED OFF. I know this especially, because I was one of them. ^-^
The movie is still greatly loathed to this day, and the Godzilla that starred in it has been given the name GINO, or Godzilla In Name Only. The only thing that has come from the 1998 remake that any of these angry fans has EVER admitted to liking, would have to be the animated series that followed.
In this series they got a Godzilla that may have resembled the loathed GINO, but had alot more in common with the Godzilla they were familiar with. A Godzilla that fought monsters, a Godzilla that wasn't cowardly, a Godzilla that WASN'T pregnant, and above all else, a Godzilla that actually had an atomic breath weapon.
Above all else, this series actually seemed to respect the source material, having many homages and tributes to various classic Toho creations as well as new and unique opponents for Zilla to throw down with.
Needless to say, this version of GINO (or Zilla as he's also called now), is what alotta fans wished they had gotten for the 1998 remake instead of what was given to them.
