Yar'Zanti concept image created for me by the awesome Hexabeast on DA and Weasyl.
When I came up with the Yar'Zant, I really wanted to see an image of them. That way I could visualize them and their armor better. I wanted the Yar'Zanti to be both human-like but also alien at the same time.
The Yar'Zanti society is matriarchal and militaristic. Everyone from the highest female admiral to the lowest enlisted wears armor. In their society, to expose their skin in public is a big faux pas. Thus their armor becomes a part of them and their identity. Plus each is allowed to decorate their armor with their ranks, unit patches, and specific symbols as allowed by their command. Those that maintain pristine armor typically don't serve on the front lines or out in the field. Those who do go out tend to care less about polishing their plates as much as keeping them maintained.
Their armor colors indicate their main job classification within the military order:
*Green: Command and Control
*Yellow: soldiers, Pilots, Scouts, and Security
*Blue: Medical and Bio Techs
*Red: Engineers, Architects, and Designers
*Purple: Science and Research
*Grey: Background Services and Punishment
Their rank structure is (translated into English):
Officers:
*Grand Admiral
*Fleet Admiral
*Admiral
*Captain
*Commander
*Lt Commander
*Lieutenant
*LTJG
*Ensign
Enlisted:
*Sergeant Major
*First Sergeant
*Gunnery Sergeant
*Staff Sergeant
*Sergeant
*Corporal
*Lance Corporal
*Private

Well at least the traitors left enough jinks in their armor to give a patient sniper a good shot at taking them down.
It looks like you used naval ranks for the officer side of things and mostly copied the USMC enlisted rank structure. But in the end, it looks like I'd still be stuck as a terminal lance.

That might happen if the sniper is super accurate and can hit a very small moving target. As far as the rank structure, I did not want to copy one branch but mix it up a bit. Then the navy/marine corps relationship came to mind. Plus the public knows the navy officer ranks quite well, but the navy enlisted ranks not so well. Yet they are familiar with most of the marine/army ranks. Thus I chose to marry the navy officer ranks with the marine enlisted ranks.
You might still be a terminal lance in the Yar'Zanti or they might find something in your experience/memories/personality that might make you a candidate for something better. What you were as a human might not always be what you are as a Yar'Zanti. Also, while humans in the know might call them traitors (few are truly in the know so most just call them aliens.) the Yar'Zanti simply think of themselves as being reborn.

ok... Well if the Yar'Zanti don't use cutting scores like the Corps does I might be able to get promoted...... Otherwise it's Lance for life, for the dawg.
But as I heard one old school infantry officer say one day about Marine Corps infantry.... "The Marine Corps runs on Lance Corporal leadership and PFC power."
