So I had been wanting to make something I could wear, lately. One of the characters I roleplay as online wears them, so I figured they would be interesting enough to try and make. I found a number of different patterns and styles, but settled on using the pattern designed by taeliac on DA as a base. I made some alterations to the original tutorial pattern to fit my style while I figured out exactly what it was I wanted to do with it.
The photos from left to right along the top are Front view, Right side view, and back view, with waistband details on the bottom.
The most obvious thing, I suppose, would be the use of a set of double D-ring friction locks and a rectangular loop to close the openings on the sides, which are pictured on the bottom. I also stitched in a rudimentary pocket, because, well, pockets. I'd have added a few other things, but I kind of ran out of fabric. My choice of fabric was simple: It was there. I didn't see myself using the fabric at all, really, so I just decided to use it, because heavy cotton fabric.
I didn't finish pressing the pleats because I made the mistake of using an iron-in fusing web to hold the hem for stitching. While it did serve its purpose in making a totally perfect-looking hem, it also stiffened the hem so that it now makes large, rounded arcs rather than the more typical drapery-like folds. I plan on making other hakama in the future.
Any and all feedback on this is welcome!
