Title based after a Godzilla movie!
I've heard there are some anthro artists out there who are torn between loving to draw anthro and hating the fandom they draw for. And are pretty vocal about it which they have the right to say whats on their mind.
Thing is, sure you have every right to hate whoever or whatever you want, but does that really change anything? You still draw anthro, lol!
The way I see it, EVERY group or genre has something embarrassing about them. Anime has to live down Loli porn, Germans have to live down WW2 (and the scat porn, yeesh!), Pee Wee Herman has to live down the theater issue, Christians have to apologize for Shirley Phelps Roper, etc. etc. The only reason we make fun of it is because we as a society focus on the negative for humor and entertainment purposes. There's no need to feel you have to hate yourself for the actions of a few...

Anime watchers got made fun of or looked at weird because of the child-like appearance of most fo the characters, the big eyes, multi-colored hair and high pitched voices, not to mention most people's perception of anime usually has something to do with tentacles...

I felt that way when my now wife laid into me about not doing something a little more mainstream. This was only after I mentioned my new online galleries and stuff and my Dad happened to remark "Gee, there's actually a market for the crap you draw?"
Then the CSI episode came out and then MTV did their thing... it all went downhill from there.

Hey,Vix',thanks for kicking my brain in the pants and making me actually think!...I will admit I have found some of the more,shall we say "unique" fetishes I've encountered since becoming a full-time Anthro Artist somewhat unsettling,but this is how I look at it.....unless someone actually does something horrible in the real physical world,I really don't feel It's my lookout to judge either the person or their choice of entertainment.I love Anthro art,it's my niche,and why would I want to aienate the very people who appreciate my work? Neither do I tend to lose sleep over whether we'll ever gain "mainstream acceptance".....what does that even MEAN anymore? The "mainstream" entertainment industry heaps praise on shows like "Sex in the city" and "The Sopranos",yet they turn up their noses at the "adult entertainment" industry.....at least the porn people don't try to BS you about who they are....it's so bogus.Furry is like anything else...it's got good,bad and indifferent.
Oh, I agree on that. Fetishes we see here on FA aren't necessarily localized around furries (with the exception of humans/anthro sex, of course). Loli, inflation/feeding, vore, triple cocked hermaphrodites with detachable heads.... everyone's got their own kinks that can easily and freely be explored or expressed with anomity over the internet.

Unfortunately, the studios look at Mainstream Acceptance is nothing but how much profit can we make for them. Another unfortunate is nothing is original. Look at all the remakes in Hollywood these days. Even Cheech and Chong openly admitted back in the 60s all their bits are stolen, but nobody cared, its all how it was presented. Even this new Wayans Brothers movie Little Man is a rip off an old Bugs Bunny cartoon!
If its different its weird and must be ostracised. They trust the familiarity will draw our attention and keep their ratings high.

There are those who like to look at pictures of anthro animals, those who dress in fursuits, those who give a damn about anything but, dragons, raccoons or feathered critters and those who molest their sheep.
We are in my opinion NOT all the same, that would be horrible if a fandom was an amorphous mass of identicall minded individuals.

HEE HEE, reminds me of the Black 'White Supremecist' AND YES! I may be furry but that doesnt mean I have to like it! We all know the general population of furry are social degenerates anyway, why cant we just... end it all by ending eachother from the inside bringing it to an end! The Ends justify the means. Or worse, you could be a furry artist who found his way into furry through anime.
Both otaku and furries make me feel embarrassed about what I like, mostly because they collide so often on the internet, and honestly, I thought GD was the comic that would unite them for once, but apparently not.
Plus their actions embarrass me. Between the furry drama and the anime fanboyishness (ZOMG SUGOI!!!), it's no wonder I feel left in the middle with at least some common sense.
If I want to embarrass myself I am more than capable of doing so.
And yes I am aware that I may be an embarrassment to someone else.
Look at it this way: at least I'm not doing drugs like some people I know IRL.

It's not so bad, I found anime first I think through some old Lum and Ranma 1/2 comics at a Half Price Books. I got into it and went to my first convention where I found (ta-daaa!) Anthropomorphics! And suddenly, I realized hey there ARE other people who draw what I draw! And I plunged right into the thick of it and became a preteen annoyance to my favorite artists.
Almost 17 years later, here I am still waiting for Anthro to go mainstream and rock the ratings. Gold Digger was lacking the advertisement. We knew about it along with Furrlough, Genus and Wildlifers but it was like pulling teeth to get local comic book stores to place the orders. Antarctic Press held 2% of the comic market, which wasn't bad considering they were competing with DC, Marvel and Image but the comic stores still thought they were gonna take a loss.
I plan on going to a Furcon sometime soon but at the same time, I'm not sure what to expect out of the fans and myself at a place like this. I don't do the fursuit thing but at the same time I don't look down on people that do. I only hope I don't get scared out of the fandom altogether by their rumored behavior. The last anime con I went to I was about scared out of their by the mass amounts of fan boys (and girls believe it or not) shouting for yaoi or loli!

yeah, the KKK reference was a bit out there, but it's something we all can recognize. Plus, I still had an episode of Chappelle Show in my head!
My argument still stands that, shouting how much one hates their own fandom is futile and changes nothing because they still draw anthro, they still Watch the same people they complain about, they still subscribe to the same galleries we do so it's just wasted energy. Spend it being creative instead of destructive!

Certain "sources" such as MTV, CSI, and Vanity Fair always seem to find the assholes and people who are generally unbalanced to portray as an accurate sampling of the fandom. My parents bought into it until... well, until I gently assured them that it was no different than Trekkies or Fantasy geeks, with a few people who may sheer their ears to look like elves or Vulcans. And those are the ones who get media covereage.
To be honest, now that I've found a group of furs that live in my area, (Kyote and Ebony leopard on here, as well as Raffox, who is not present on FA at the moment), I've been a lot happier. They are wonderful people who happen to like furry art. Heck, they're more outspoken about it than I am!

The MTV thing and CSI episodes came out (missed the Vanity Fair thing) and suddenly she demands the comic be discontinued because of all the attention its getting from all the "weirdos". My daughter 'meows' and has a pair of paw gloves, ears and a tail. My son collects stuffed animals just like I do (they're collectibles, dammit!) and the three of us embrace our Aztec heritage. My wife sees this as an inherited illness and has reported this to our marriage counselor. Tell me I don't see the hatred....
CSI and several other crime dramas were vieing for viewers so they had a SLEW of bizarre crimes involving sexual orientations and fetishes. One channel did an episode with infantilism, one with bondage, another with vore or 'pretend' cannibalism, lesbian and gay couples, and finally CSI with the Furries. What it ended up amounting to was the networks telling the viewing audience that if you're into kinky stuff you're delving into a dark side of society, one that involves murder...
I could only WISH that there were more Furries around me down here in Texas just so that I have people to talk to. The internet is great for comminication but there's nothng like chatting with a real life peson at Starbucks or someplace.

I dunno, we haven't had any NEGATIVE feedback about this (minus one individual) but we have stirred up a lot of emotion and introspective thoughts. And really, that's what this was supposed to accomplish: to take a good look at ourselves and ask ourselves why.
I'm not outright active in the furry universe and I do see this quite a bit. So why can't we be united instead of hiding in the closet from eachother? What does it matter? Admitting you're a furry doesn't mean you'll lose your job, credit cards will be cancelled, or you'll be beaten to death and dragged behind a farm truck, so what does shouting "I hate furries" though so-and-so is a furry really accomplish?

Yeah, I once made the mistake of adding a good photographer to my DA list and they attacked me with all kinds of accusations of pedo stuff from pictures of her kid that didn't even exist on her DA page to jacking off to my own kids' toys. They flooded my page with it for awhile until KittyN finally banned them for good.

this might be a late post seeing this has been submitted for over a year but *grabs a shot gun* Time to kill some fur haters. I dont mind if you dont like us but you dont have to be all KKK fucking kill all the furrys over it. I mean we dont do that to religion or the gay people. I am a BIG fur fandom supporter and I believe myself to be of furry decent in spirit. Dont laugh cause I know there are others out there like me. As far as the picture goes.... I honestly hate a few people in the fandom, you always have thouse god modding backwards retards (in RP's only mostly) that just piss you off but then again no matter where you go your allways gonna have some one that pushes your buttons. One reason why I came to the fandom in the first place is because life is so boring normaly. I admit I have things I can do such as model biulding but even they can grow dual over time, And things like incest and ageplay are welcome here, to most people, some people dont like it but you dont see them really outlawing it, Hell if I had a sister and it was legal I would grab a pack of 20 condoms and we wouldnt stop (if she was willing enough) untill we ran out... hell we might continue even after we run out ^.^

Not all Christians are like that, and besides I'm a secular christian I do believe that the right wing Christians are fake ass followers like Anna Colter, they love money, they don't feed the poor, they dont pray for people, hate people, and they don't love pagans. They hate to talk about Jesus sat with worldy folks and healed a centurion's servant. We need to be more open to the world folks not cast them out, that's why I left my old church, they want us to sign a contract for tithings, to us is false and they act like radicals. I been there and see what the right winger Christians are doing, I don't have time with these fools.
