Blue-Green Planeswalker
A blue-green planeswalker character of mine for a Magic: The Gathering themed roleplay. Now I just need to come up with an explanation as to how a traditionally black-aligned creature type would end up in the blue-green side of things... or I could shrug it off as self-gratification. Let's go with plan B!
Now, let's play a little game of Manarat character art bingo:
Posture-emoting over posture-plausibility? Check!
Jaunty angles at the collar line? Check!
Sashes, scarves, and/or capes? Check!
Metal accents to cloth attire? Check!
Overwrought pants in an effort to give texture and definition? Check!
And that makes bingo, with "Inexplicable clothing item combinations" as the free square.
That being said, this was a fun one to play with, if only for the themes involved. For those not familiar with M:tG, the colors blue and green pull towards opposite concepts. Green is naturalistic, nurturing, exploratory and intuitive; blue is industrious, dispassionate, constraining and analytical. Before any costume colors enter the picture I had to explore it purely through the costume choices.
What we're left with is an undershirt/vest combination that evokes a scholarly air, but with more rugged leggings and rolled-up sleeves that suggest a far more active method of application. The half-cape features geometric metal clasps riveted into the fabric, with baubles dangling from the fringe having the feel of more spiritualistic kitsch.
In his hand is a bundle of yarrow plants ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achillea_millefolium ), an (actual, real-life existing) herb that's been a staple of herbalism and natural medicine for thousands of years; modern analytical science reveals the medicinal compounds within its essential oils and explains the fact in the folklore. The whole thing is tied together with an Evolution Charm ( http://gatherer.wizards.com/pages/C.....verseid=124047 ) on a metal chain as the centerpiece, blending and blurring the ideologies in ways that only a Planar Chaos card can manage.
Quoth both my girlfriend and my roommate on the matter of his design, "I like his snout."

Ah, there's Syd =D
And yes, that is a muzzle to be proud of, snout like that could silence a room
Again I bow to your aesthetics here, it's a simple rustic getup but it's perfectly suited, plus I don't think we've had a green Planeswalker yet who uses flowers as a motif
Not to mention the Charm, the Charm ties things nicely, can't wait to draw him myself someday when I nab the time =B

Not to say I look the praise in the mouth; I actually went into this thinking I'd have to work very hard in NOT committing the usual mistake of giving him a snout that looks more canine than ratlike. (You see that a lot in the nose of pics especially)
But thankfully, it all sort of fell into place in the first stroke. Woohoo!
Still working on trying to draw yours, by the way. I wanted to call you out as being essentially responsible for inspiring this one but wasn't sure if that'd just be rude.

I do occasionally worry how same-y my art gets in furry anatomy, I try to look at different species and try to figure out how to make different species still look somewhat distinct, but I think you nailed it pretty damn well here on Syd =B
I'll take whatever the hell praise I can get too =B We both need to take that a little more gracefully methinks, just happy to see something fun that came out of that inspiration now!
