It is! That is why I think it's not more popular overall. I need specialized tools to cut and carve it since it's so hard, and its small size adds another layer of complexity to it. Definitely easier materials to work with out there, but I love tagua -it's a very unique substance to work with and very eco-friendly :)
They are really pleasant to touch - the light slices like this are quite smooth, almost like a polished stone (the dark slices are a bit more textured) - one of the neatest things about seeing them in person is if you hold them up to the light, it shines through the nut and you can see many more details and a glowing ivory color - it's really cool! :)
I can vouch for this. About a year or so ago, I bought a light pendant. The texture is quite smooth and pleasant enough to the touch that I often fiddle with it. The material also holds up wonderfully over time. Miraculously mine's survived two accidental trips through the washing machine, but don't tempt fate by doing that! Admittedly it warped slightly due to this, as tagua is sensitive to water. Still, it's worth the buy and lovely to have around.
