...means something very different when you spend most of your time on a space ship.
Here's Starling and Antar taking a walk in the void. I showcased here what I imagine Starlings overcoat to look like, which she has to put on in order to be able to enter space/magnet space (so yeah, this is what was missing in "child of the stars").
Anyway: THE BACKGROUND IS NOT BY ME!!!!!! It's a wallpaper I got from god knows where, so please no credit on me for how awesome the background is :b

Quick note on one particular element. I'm sure that you totally cheated to do it, but I want to applaud you on making the background show through her wings so perfectly. It really does look like the light is passing through them, which shows that you put some thought into it. It's just a shame that I'm pretty sure you used layers and transparency properties to achieve it. The thought counts, but using transparency isn't a skill. *chuckles*
How may I understand your comment from before?
And about the "cheating". In this case I didn't actually touch layer transparency, just worked on a second layer on top. I get what you mean, but trust me, I would have the skill to work it out even without layers. The only reason why I actually have the skills to work in digital as I do is because I originally came from the traditional side (and still am working in it at times, oil paints and pencils :3 )

I just figured you took a short-cut, because you're using digital media and there not much reason not to. I may not have believed that you really created that effect manually, but I didn't really question whether you could. Quite honestly, if I had the talent to do it, I wouldn't, because it's really wasted effort, when the same thing could be achieved by cheating. Traditional artists cheat, too, and while it may not be as easy to do, and it may not allow them to completely skip steps like digital media does...the result is the same. It's a way for an artist to put less work into something than people might think they did while keeping the end result the same. Kind of like using a wallpaper background (kudos on fessing up to that up-front...lesser folks might take the credit).
In any case, I brought it up because it's the final result that really does matter, in the end. If you did it by hand, then I'm a bit impressed, yeah, but really...no one but would've ever known that if you hadn't told us. I'd say use transparency next time and save yourself the work. If you can do it for real, then great, but I'm one guy in a thousand who might actually care about that...most people don't appreciate process.

Oh, I did create this with another layer, no doubt. I love open Canvas for it's simplicity for work with transparency, so if I ever do need something, I can add it in there...I was just saying that I "could" have done it by just, well...doing it on one layer, which is what I used to do like...about half a year or so back, when I was still getting into the swing of things with oC (mind you, I had been using oC for past a year before that, so I don't know if that'd count as gettin ginto the swing of things, but whatever)
But yeah, hey, cool for paying attention to things like that, few people ever do ^^

I suppose so...I just don't see why I can't use some of my time to be social with my fans and people who take the time to comment on my work (although I will sometimes just jump over a "oh, great" comment, because there's 20 - 30 others that say exactly the same or a variation of it XD)

o.0 I immediatly got half a dozen stories coming into my mind looking at that pic... Mysterious lifeforms, impossible encounters, possibly not even from our own universe but from a dark, magical side...
Fantastic. And I know you could have done the background yourself if you wanted too, it would have been far better ;D

Oh, it's quite fuzzy : many ideas are travelling as I see such pics. I'm thinking about Lovecraft and I see an old entity from another plane, what will the encounter be like ? Is the guy in the suit surprised, or does he know what he is facing, and how ? I'm thinking about Dan Simmons (Hyperion), and I see two creatures of the same species, but long ago separated and one has evolved in vacuum, and the two probably don't even know they are related... I'm thinking about just a magic moment, but the space creature will soon vanish, and will never been seen again. The guy in the suit will probably keep this story for himself, for he would be considered insane if he tells that to anybody. Or maybe the creature will oneday come back to him in a totally different situation, what will happen during that second meeting ? And I could go on again and again, every time I look at it something new comes to my mind, with hundreds of development possible...
You see, that's how works my mind, and that's why your works ALWAYS appeal me, why I'm so found of the atmospheres you are able to depict. Your pics are opened, at the same time they are detailed enough to create a whole world around the characters, but taken in the middle of an event so it's still up to the watcher to imagine what happened before and after, what the world of those characters look like. :) :)

I do love your design for the armour, though I feel that I have to ask, haven't seen anyone else mention it. But is his tail uncovered? In previous pics it would seem that the armour doesn't cover the tail, my main reason for thinking this is that the armour is white (ish) but the tail is black, so if it were covered by the suit then it'd look the same colour. Wouldn't want that pretty long tail to get cold now :P
Always love the work though, and how you've designed the species you use in your art.
