just out of curiosity what two elements did you not expect?

i guess it came from my study of angelic stories from old jewish and kabalistic Lore and the images they gave of beings made of wings and light and animal parts. Like true seraph have 3 pair of firey wings and a horses head a human head a eagle head and a lion head on a body not well described. orignal Cherubs were Bull bodied winged creatures with human heads. sometimes rarely described backwards almost like winged minataurs. Some of the other angels were not remotely human but simply things like wheels of fire and light constructs reminicent of crystals. the lamb of god was a seven horned seven eyed sheep with some other features that escape me right now. and of course more recent incarnations of some of the saints like St. Christopher who was dog headed. and anothwer saint who's name i do not know who was ferret headed (at least the cave painting of him in the underground monestary looks that way) there is a LOT of animal imagery in the tradtions that Evangelion borrowed. and this was also partly inspired by the image i am doing of the Metatron from old testament stuff in which the being known as Enoch who was father of Moses was transformed into the new voice of god and had 36 sets of fire wings and a thousand eyes. so i am setting all but one eye (which will be in the middle of the forehead on the central figure of the Metatron) on the feather tips like peacock feathers but much more Eye looking like i did on this.

heh I though the eye thing had to do with some sort of mathmatic progression and that Eva Unit 03 would have 8 eyes. i had not actually caught that. which is odd i caught so much more in the series.

Ah the fish thing i do know! Fish and Whales were major early religious symbols of Christ. He was a fisher of men. i am sure you have seent he Fish symbols on carsa nd such. that was but on of the early symbols of christianity and was easily hidden in documents and such and scribbled quickly on meeting areas and safe houses. it is taken from the x like symbol fo the greeks which the greek spelling of Chirst begins with (also hence X-mas which was invented by christians though the fundamentalists do not study thier own histroy or they would embarce the term and know it was not something to exclude him but very much hearken back to the roots of thier own religion) Anyway one of the other religious symbols of the time was a dolphin impaled on a trident since dolphins were sacred to jesus as they were saviours of drowning sailors and protected fishermen and lead them to great catches (cause the nets would disturb the large shoals of fish and make an easy meal for both men and dolphin! :) ) the other reasons for the whle/fish lips were from older stories like Jonna and the Whale where he was swallowed by a great fish (which was assumed to be for the lonegst time a whale but was if it happened probably a shark sinc there are sharks that can swallow a human whole and they do occasionally throw up all the indegestable stuff every so often when it hurts thier stomachs. but not often.) but there is a lot of fish lore. the no eyes was probably due to the blindness of humans and thier inability to see the truth and act blindly. it could also indicate blind faith.

personally i loved the wings on those production evas and i was kinda irked when we never got to see some of the Evas being produced elsewhere like the american one. the one that the whole base disapeared. i think that was right before the last prototype eva piloted by shinji's classmate and freind who's name escapes me

well they were not so much being symbols of chirst as he was tyhe fisher of men not the fish. People were the fish as were his disciples. and indeed they did betray him. but from all the panels i had sat in on in at anime cons and such they seem to think and some had talked to Anno and some of his symboles were taken willy nilly and used as he saw fit. amazingly the final production eva don't get much coverage in the panels so anything is conjectture here.

well i own several versions of the series so i think offense has passed me by. I simply love it greatly :)

and yes the fan speculation is great. the arguements i have seen over the smallest details that seem so unimportant to most people like the name of the beer Misato happens to drink or the exact second count of the still frame when she and her boyfriend are talking bed kills me. and now i do not remember the second count on the scene or the exact number that they related due to numerology from the beer name. but then some fans are simply insane i think or brillant beyond beleif. but then genius and insanity are a close set of cousins
