Did you base the airplane in the background of of the PBY-2 Catalina?

It's actually supposed to be a fictional ground-effect craft. Including it on the cover was sort of a compromise with the publishers who wanted it to be clear that there were exotic aircraft involved. It actually isn't supposed to be able to fly this high but the cover art was nicely done so I'm really not complaining about it.

The plane is pretty similar to an "ekranoplan," a sort of heavy flying boat that skims above the surface of the water. It has the advantage of not needing as much energy to stay aloft as a full-sized plane, so it can be larger and more efficient; it's also faster than a container ship so it's basically all the best qualities of a plane and a ship combined.

I like putting a lot of tech geekery into my books while still keeping the story interesting.

Once again, awesome job on all accounts. While we didn't sell as many as I would like, we did sell an awful lot of the first book to people who wanted to read that before reading the sequel. A lot of the people who had already read the first book did buy the second one.

Your cover art definitely caught plenty of attention, though! I will remember you for future projects (I have artists lined up for the next two or three books but I'm trying to put out books on a fairly regular basis). I promise to make easier deadlines next time!

I can kind of see why it caught attention; you just can't resist buying something which has a fox holding a rifle on it's cover.

Plus, if that's who I think it is, I'd really want to know what got him in that kind of situation.
