Whew! This was the costume I wore to the Renaissance Faire this year. Last year was my first time ever going to a Ren Faire, and I thought it would be way more fun to wear a costume. I was right! I got stopped by people who wanted photos (including some cute but shy little girls), and even the vendors wanted to know where my mask and tail came from.
Everything you see here is handmade. You might recognize the yarn tail from a previous submission here, and the skirt and top from farther back. The mask and wings are new. The mask is paper mache, and MUCH lighter than the coyote totem mask that originally went with the skirt and top.
The wings are layered posterboard and cellophane.
I wanted to do something fairy-like but more feral. So here's a fox fairy, a fairy aligned more with wildlife than with flowers or seasons. See the bones and feathers? This is a fairy that might kill your chickens...
I had a lot of fun playing with the black-white-orange color scheme (red fox and monarch colors go together perfectly!), and it was cool to also work in the autumnal theme.
Costume success! Now if only it would be warm enough to use this for Halloween as well. I'll probably just add the mask to my fox costume from last year (which included the tail and a sweatshirt).

Awww, thanks. Yeah, a lot of work went into the overall design to try to make it a little more feral. I almost got a knife as well, haha.
The little details were pretty fun. I've rarely had a costume project go this smoothly. The only part where I had a hitch was figuring out how to subtly mount the wings. Other than that, it was a lot of coming up with new things to add and then just... hot gluing!
