What I have compiled in notes. But Noelle isn't the first guardian.
All that is known is some powerful beings created them and gave them the desire to protect something dear to them.
There are still a few of the very first Guardians around, but most have passed on to new hosts.

Guardians aren't "found".
The cores are what create a guardian. They merge with a living being to grant them a new body and powers.
It is the choice of Guardian of who or what they want to protect and how.
A example being a guardian tied to nature: This can manifest in them caring for the animals of the forests, or just the plants. They could protect the forest passively like warding off areas. Or aggressively like destroying logging camps or attacking towns near their forest.
It is of their own free will to choose what they protect, they can't be coerced into defending something they don't believe in or want to protect.
And finding a marble core doesn't meant it will bond to anyone, it chooses who it wishes to bond with.
