During his time in the army, as an army chef, he turned feral and went AWOL as a result of too many traumatic experiences in the jungle. He was later found and discharge after being decleared mentally unfit to serve. After returning to America, he coped with his PTSD, but he still makes a habit of sprinting on all fours, getting better with scaling walls and his overall agility even though he got fatter and grew powerful with his magic.
Even though he has PTSD, he won't really freak out, unless he's in a gleaming jungle again, and hear guns while totally alone and somehow stressed, and without his glasses, he'll easily get lost.
Why can't he magic some glasses?
He doesn't understand eye science.
