In a way I kind of felt bad for the Confederate troops in terms of gear. All they had essentially was whatever they could carry in their pockets and knapsack and were often poorly equipped (ammo was bordering on a scarcity).
Hell, they didn't even have proper backpacks like Union troops, the vast majority wrapped their sleeping blankets around their stuff, tied up the ends and carried them on their backs like that.

I wouldn't go for a Confederate sword as there were VERY MANY kinds of varying quality, the same today. You can very easily get screwed trying to find a Confederate sword. You would be better trying to find a United States or English sword reproduction as most Confederates carried those in the war. Also make sure you look for REPRODUCTION as those are more likely to have been made correctly.
