The United States has become more of a military state externally and internally. Even though the crime rate has gone down, the police have ramped up and beefed up their high powered toys. Swat teams are used more and more often (do you need one for low end drug dealers?) even though that much force is unnecessary and it's bankrupting us. If all you have is a hammer, everyone looks like a nail.
