Based on this meme, I thought I'd try seeing how I did with an old piece vs the new one. I can't even remember how old it is, must be like...Iunno, ten years (I think one of my first MFFs)? It was old even when I first posted it here!
I drew the new picture mostly from memory, so I didn't do a direct comparison until I was pretty much done. I honestly wasn't expecting to see much change...and quite frankly, I'm pleasantly surprised that I can.
Admittedly it's a bad scan of a colored pencil image vs a relatively hasty digital pic, so it's not quite a fair comparison. Still, my updates to anatomy, and ESPECIALLY expressions (he is SO smarmy as a human) are lookin' much better! Plus, it's nice to see the effect of the switch to digital media, particularly since I could use a few effects in the transformation area.
And there's the little details...the shorts made for a better overall color scheme when turned yellow, his weightlifting gloves are now appropriately fingerless, the wolf is slightly brown to better show the transformation panels are mostly monochrome, the weight plates are more realistic...I'm just THINKING better now. I seriously considered making the human guy black or latino, since I couldn't draw anything but white guys back then, but I figured that wasn't quite a redraw.
I admit I do kindasorta miss the pencils on the background moon; I still think I did honestly pretty darn well on that originally and it was really hard to duplicate quickly here.
[edit: well looky here...a new version?

You can definitely see how the first one is more polished/less scratchy (a combination of the digital art being new and you doing this quickly, unless I am misunderstanding you) but you can also see the extra details in the human form's anatomy, and I love the new facial expressions--both the smarmy one and the "Aw f$%k, no, there go the muscles!" look. The variations (or outright different choices) in what you put in the TF panels is also interesting. So overall, it's both an improvement and a unique piece in its own right.
I do have to say though that I still love the wolf's look in the first one, since it implies this has happened before and he's become jaded and cynical about it all. ^_^

Interesting: I don't know enough anatomy to look at the first one and see things wrong, but if I compare back and forth, I can suddenly see wonky spots in the original that are corrected in the redraw, and it's clear that, oh, yeah, that *was* weird, wasn't it? Congrats on the progress!
