My first ACEO (Artist Cards, Editions and Originals) that I completed. A Sappho Comet hummingbird has been attracted by the floral wreathe around this cat's neck, who is kinda "Ummm....ok!". This was fun to do, frustrating because I was experimenting, yet the fun outwieghed the ARGH. There are a lot of mistakes, I didn't use reference for the cat (unless Tigerlilly happened to be walking by) and only looked at a Sappho comet photo to make sure I got the color gradiations somewhat similar to the real thing. I learned from this!

I love hummingbirds, and Sappho Comets, or Red Tailed Comets as they are commonly referred to these days, are among my favorites. These are the birds Enya refers to in her song "China Roses." Hummers are so bold and confident, it's really a joy when they come down to say hi...where's my sugar water human! Hee. The thought of a friendly cat being visited by a hungry hummer was too cute an idea to pass up."
