A commission for
Pickled_Lemur of their character, Pickle! A winged lemur/canid hybrid beastie.
This actually took me a pretty long time to do because of all the details, and I was very careful to take the time needed to make sure that everything was accurate. I also tested out a new way of blending markings on flat coloured images that I'm really happy with! I think it helps make it look more like actual fur, instead of just being painted on(a look I've been trying to avoid!) I think my favourite part of this image is the tail. ;u;
I hope you like it! :D

Thank you! I keep neglecting my DA account, but I saw the awesome picture you did of your tanthu and I love it! I know you had asked for tips when illustrating clouds... As far as doing cloudy skies in traditional mediums, it's honestly mostly practice that makes the difference with hard mediums, but you can use softer mediums like watercolour paint, or acrylic paint and apply the sky with a soft cloth wrapped around your finger instead of a brush, and that will give you a really nice soft cloud look. If you're more comfortable using pencils and you don't really like to mess with paint, I would also recommend watercolour pencils. They're kind of a novelty item, I guess, but for this sort of thing they are really useful and I like them a lot. You can probably get a really cheap pack of like... crayola brand watercolour pencils, and use those to start. They go on just like any other pencil, but then you use a wet paintbrush to smooth them out and make them look like watercolours. The trick, I find, is just to make sure you only press very gently on the pencil, and make the initial application really light. You can always touch it up or darken it in spots after it dries, especially if you work on bristol or a thicker paper.
I hope that helps! ;u;

Glad you love the pic! I've drawn him again, though he's not coloured yet and yes, clouds are again in the background. So I will use your tips and see how I do. I think I have some watercolour pencils somewhere. I also have watercolour paint too though I've not used it for a long while. Thanks so much for the tips! I really appreciate it!
I'd kind of like to do some plushie gore at some point, just to see if I can manage to make it come across as dark enough, you know? I just feel like it would be a neat challenge to take something that soft and nonthreatening and make it the focus of a really dark image.
Thank you! :D I want to hammer out a WIP for that trade I owe you either this week or next week. It's slow going because I need to prioritize commissions, and that's kind of normal for trades, but I definitely don't normally take THIS long on trades and I feel awful for making you wait so long when you completed your half ages ago and did such an awesome job of it, ;n;
I can't even claim nostalgia because I still have Zeek and he is just a big sparklemonster that I like to pretend is an actual serious character that I made for serious reasons. But no. I made him when I was 14 and I haven't really changed his design at all and he is a giant sparklebaby.
I just want some ugly, wrinkly, blind thing with weird anatomy, big claws, and a huge mouth. I never really have time for personal art these days though. ^^' I can do so little art in a day compared to what I used to, and I use pretty much all my "art points" on commissions these days. Gotta get my queue under control, man. Ahaha
