A photo of the " Blood Moon" , Lunar Eclipse that occurred this morning at 6 6:15 AM, October 8th, 2014.
Taken with Nikon D5100 / ISO3200 / 3secShutter / factory Nikkor 18-55mm lens.
i would have gotten a more detailed photo with a better zoom telephoto lens. ( this is full zoom and cropped, taken in my backyard.
The moon takes on a "red" color when the earth passed between the moon and the sun, allowing the moon to receive the "sunset effect" through the earth's atmosphere during the total lunar eclipse making it glow red.

I was walking to the base galley around 4 am.
This was back in Californian during all the wild fires, 2008 I believe.
There was a full moon at the time. Due to all the smoke/ ash in the air.
It turned the moon a blood red..a very haunting sight.
I stopped to look at it.. It still stays with me.

As it is a sight and a very beautiful picture. Blood moons are not rare. They happen at least 5 times a year in different countries. One is set for April and I do plan on watching it but as I said, they are not rare but they do only happen on occasion in the U.S but they still happen increasingly as the years pass.
