Some one handed me a playmates TNG tricorder last week and asked me to add lots more LEDs to closer mimic the show. But the wanted lots of blue...
So here we are. with an almost finished device :3
Though this piece is currently operational and usable. It is still unfinished. The screen back light has yet to be installed as well as several light shields to hide glow bleeding through some areas of the plastic. The LEDs added to this unit are incredibly bright and the forward white lamps act as a decent short range torch. It still has its original light and sound sequences and runs off of the same 2xAA power supply that the original design supports. Yes the led colours are inaccurate to the show. This is by request and to be honest I kinda like it!
Total build time was 7 hours using only pliers and soldering iron and a dremmel.
This was a very fun little project and I certainly hope to make more like it in future. Despite the awfully tight space inside I managed to get all the wiring In.
