Could be what he was eating. The last time I went to feed the ones in DC here, they looked like they had mange or something, their muzzles were all stained brownish. A little later I see it was because they were eating some type of big greenish brown pine nut (no idea what type it was but saw one eating in front of me). Natures makeup. :)
Our pair tree has possibly 100 or more pairs on it. none of them taste good. the apples are small and wormy, the birds ate all the cherries, the walnuts were decimated and the peach tree is sickly. The corn was good but sparse, about the only thing that came in well was the tomatoes.
