There's a scene in The Beach where the protagonist dives the wrong way and ends up in a place like this, with fluorescent algae on the stone walls. (If I reacall it right)
I have to agree wih Carbon-Vanilla. You did great with capturing the emotion and still it's a but funny because of his eyes.
