Lycan are the evolved version of the wolves on Cérès. Straight and raised triangular ears, thick and fluffy proud tails, eyes mostly made of pure gold or blue in which is burning a wild flame, reflecting their free spirit and rebellious nature, Lycans are masters of this world although they don’t feel the desire to conquest it all. They are however extremely territorial but tolerate perfectly other species on their territories (well exept the Paradise Defenders which tolerate no other « evolved » species on their lands), although all they care about is to be masters of their own « houses ». They live in packs for the greater part, although some, rarer, banished or by choice, live alone a solitary life. There are four very big packs on Cérès and the size of these packs allows them to be considered as real clans: The Proud Warriors of Farès, the Peace Makers, the Children of Cérès and the Paradise Defenders. But there are many other smaller packs on Cérès.
A pack is always ruled by one Alpha or a couple of Alphas to whom the rest of the pack owes respect and obedience.
Size : between 1m80 and 1m95 as anthro, between 70cm and 80cm on their wolf form and between 2m50 and 3m on their « beast » form.
Weight : between 70kg and 120 kg as anthros, between 35kg and 80kg on their wolf form and between 150kg and 350kg on their « beast » form.
Status : Predators.
Life expectancy : Between 70 and 90 years old (reach the adult age at 18).
Mostly living in : Lycans can be found almost everywhere as they are more numerous than any other evolved species. But the four biggest clans/packs are living on specific areas :
- Kiona : Peace Makers’ territory (they have various fur colours as Lycans from all around Cérès are joining them each year).
- Dezba : Proud Warriors of Farès’ territory (dominant fur tones are greys and white, light grey, dark grey mostly. And it’s rare, but sometimes you can find some brown fur colour on this pack.).
- Aquene : Children of Cérès’ territory (dominant fur tones are red, brown and dark grey colours on this pack.).
- Abequa : Paradise Defenders’ territory (dominant fur tones are black, very dark grey and some beige/sand colours on this pack).
Age of their Civilization : Similar to the very beginning of our Antiquity (they have their own alphabet).
Type of houses/buildings :
- For the Children of Cérès : Small or big huts made of wood and stones.
- For the Proud Warriors of Farès : Very simple and basic houses made of dead wood and leaves. They don’t cut living wood.
- For the Paradise Defenders : Huts made of stones.
- For the Peace makers : Houses looking like Humans’ houses even if not as elaborate. But it will come !
Typical kind of names : Lycans’ names don’t sound like anything particular. It just must be a composition of two pieces of names which can match to form a unique name. The two pieces must be separated by an apostrophe.
Customs :
- The « Mating-day »: taking example on Cérès and Farès, Lycans made the 5th day after the second moon of Spring a very special night-celebration during which the young females run to hide in the forest and, one hour later, the young males go and run on the forest where they have to track and chase them to capture their soulmate. The young people are invited to join in it as soon as they reach their sixteenth spring. But you don’t need to already know who could be your soulmate before entering the Mating-day. Because, who knows, maybe this is the perfect night for you to find yours ! Sadly, as love isn’t always mutual, a female doesn’t have to accept the love of a male only because he captured her. Fortunately, you can re-enter the Mating-Day every year, until you find your soulmate. But it is pretty unusual to see a Lycan about more than twenty springs entering it.
- The Spring dance : a whole night of dance that sets on the first day of Spring. Males guide the females’ dance by playing tomtoms so the females might be in trance and able to communicate with the Gods. This way, they will send their « words » to the Gods by spontaneous « songs ».
- Songs for the New Moon : every full moon night, Lycans from the same pack reunite to sing altogether to soothe the Full Moon’s pains so that she’ll be able to give birth to the New Moon more peacefully.
- The First Hunt’s ritual : when the youngs are old enough they send them to their first hunt with an experienced hunter to guide them and decide whom will be chosen to become new hunters or not.
- The Farewell Ritual : it consists on a whole night of « songs » when a Lycan dies to guide him on his travel to the « Evergreen hills ».
- Banishment : when a Lycan keeps on breaking the rules or commits an unforgivable crime he’s banished from the clan/pack AND its territory. Banishing consists on beating up the banished Lycan or harrassing until he or she reaches the end of the territory and gets out of it.
- A Lycan’s Name : must be chosen by the two parents. It’s a tradition. A Lycan’s name is always composed of two pieces linked by an apostrophe. The father chose one and the mother chose the other one. If a Lycan has a short name without an apostrophe on it, it means one of the parents died before being able to chose his or her part of the name, or the Lycan was adopted.
Reproductive mode : The female gives birth to 1 to 7 babies (mostly, young females have only 1 to 3 babies at a time, their ferility raises as they get older) 8 months after she got fertilized.
But when they have to face a terrible loss of members females become more fertile and can have up to 11 babies at a time ! (Good luck girls !)
Something very important : a spiritual and « magical » very strong bond is created when two Lycans have sex together. They truly become « soulmates ». That’s why Lycans don’t joke about sex and don’t try to have some with anyone else than the one they truly believe who should be their own unique destined soulmate.
