So this guy, who is totally not me, went swimming and found a cursed magic spear. That after jetting ink into the waters around him, caused him to change into the squid-folk who crafted it.

Originally inspired by the old cephalid race from MTG.
I developed a more detailed version of this raceme but never used it for my undersea setting, that eventually I'll be revisiting. Inktober's pretty good for this, hopefully this will lead into development of that world once again.
