Here is the continuation of another commission "CM Lending a Helping Hoof." Sadly, the conclusion has Harmony Star paying the price for getting in between Shining Armor's duty of protecting his little sister. Twilight and Flash look in shock and horror at Harmony's fate.

Shining Armor definitely takes being a BBBFF seriously. Perhaps this sort of behavior is what caused his parents to name him Shining Armor? They saw how protective he was of those things that mattered to him like a "Knight in Shining Armor".
Seeing this makes me think of what might happen if anyone ever did anything to even potentially endanger Cadence? I pity anyone who crosses him and who or what he treasures. In this instance poor Harmony Star. :(

He seems to be almost the "overprotective father" archetype, the one who would forbid his daughter to date, and that sort of thing. It'd be interesting to see what kind of a father Shining Armor would turn out to be, heh ^^
Even if Shining Armor did soften up a bit and allow Flash Sentry to hang out with Twilight, I think he'd just switch to the "if you break her heart, you're dead" mentality

I could definitely see that happening. It's not like Flash could escape Shining either since Shining Armor is technically Flash's superior.
My mind visualizes a point where he pulls Flash from duty to talk about things in a closed room. Shining laying down the law on what's in and out about his sister.
I thought about what he'd be like as a father, too. I know he'd be super protective if it was a filly. A colt would be just Shining Jr. to him. Though I'm sure Cadence would keep Shining in line.

Perhaps the boyfriend runs off to the hippogriffs, finally feeling scared away. And now the brother and sister are called by the map on a friendship mission — so that all three can properly reconcile.
The estranged boyfriend may initially be freaked out that Twilight and Shining Armor managed to track him down like magic. He might be bracing himself, expecting the worst.
Instead of Flash Sentry, I might prefer an earth pony named Knight Ranger.

P.S. Perhaps Twilight actually beats Shining Armor in the fight. And then, in the heat of rage, makes a nasty remark about how she’s always the one who has to rescue him and his family.

I wonder if he might ever break Cadance’s heart by mistake — by hurting someone he didn’t need to hurt. Someone could unwittingly trigger (the appearance of) a threat and then be unfairly blamed.
Overprotectiveness has definitely gone too far when it scares away those you wanted to protect.
And from there, the overprotective person could flip into a jealous rage and become an active enemy to the one they once wanted to protect. This element might be something Shining Armor experiences in a nightmare — perhaps one Luna deliberately gives him to rekindle a healthy sense of love toward Cadance.
