This was a collaboration done between
Kenket and I, from a scene you might know quite well, if you've been reading 'Off The Beaten Path'. The characters pictured are Ransom, and Puquanah (Puck)
I was responsible for the linework, and she was responsible for the amazing painting!
'Off The Beaten Path' is part 1 of a 2-part novel series I released earlier this year. You can find it on over at Furplanet here - http://furplanet.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=725

Not everyone shows standard expressions under extreme stress, either. Something to do with the shock of the situation.
I'm usually laughing like a madman when I'm bleeding bad.
(I'm a car mechanic, so cuts bad enough to need superglue to stop the bleeding are a yearly thing)

I have issues with depression - so the fact that he lives, paradoxially, doesn't make me feel better. It makes me hate myself, for crying over something that turned out to not be as bad as I thought. So... yeah, it's still a horrible chapter. "Open yer eyes for me..."
Especially since I saw the death sorta coming - my father's an author and my mother's a librarian, and I learned to read before I learned to talk. I have this innate instinct by osmosis of how a book will unfold - and the previous few chapters, in the hotel and everything, one thing you'll notice is that when a writer is about to kill off a character that's VERY fun to write (like Puck so obviously is), she'll have them in the forefront of every conversation, trying to squeeze out the last few bits, before she loses the chance. It's a huge red flag for me. I'm impressed that she sidestepped the urge to foreshadow Grant like that - authors always learn from experience.

Oh don't feel bad I cried all night long after evening she posted that chapter and felt terrible afterwords! For me it wasn't the "death" per se; not to trivialize it as of course I'd been devestated if that had been the outcome! Rather though it was the graphic detail of the abuse he underwent and afterwords with both Shivah and Ransoms reactions. Both of them were fluid and natural might I say given what had just happened, none the less it was heartbreaking... Of all her characters, many whom I love dearly! Hurting Puck was just something you just don't do! I'd take a bullet for him and not think twice about it.
Oh man that chapter... I still can't bring my self to read that again, and even after knowing the outcome of what happened with Puck it still just hurts to read it knowing how he was treated! That should say something about your writhing abilities...
Love the art and I do love how little you make Puck here. It's so easy for the viewer to want to hold him them selves. Simply fantastic.
