The butterfly pattern is a pretty clever one. If you read the official information, the demon who does the punching and high heel shoe stomping in her combos and provides her powers is called Madame Butterfly... which is also an opera with the theme of a child born of two warring countries between an american soldier and an asian prostitute. What is Bayonetta's parentage? A witch mother and an umbral sage father. Born of two world, never fitting completely in either.
