I dunno.. I use smooth/fine-toothed paper? o.o Moleskine paper is pretty nice for sketching, imo.
And the paper is from a Cachet sketchbook.. I just scanned a blank page and use it for textures/backgrounds now and again. All of these images were originally on white or off-white paper.

i would send you the updated version of Keovi, but now, i feel like i sketched it far to "Female" so..... dammit your making me work!!! jk, i enjoy it. still trying to brave up and gift adam.......intimidated by his greatness too. ANNNND!!! forgot about my comment on this submission....so ill give you a high five!
For this one, I used a scan from my recycled paper sketchbook and used that as the background; the lineart was set to multiply, so you could see the texture paper through it. I also used some gradients. In other pictures, I sometimes add in some masks and textures to create more of an eroded effect.
