"No more tears. No more regrets. I know what I'm fighting for... I'm fighting for my friends. I'm fighting for myself."
To call Team Junkyard a 'team' is generally correct, even though they are often called a 'gang' by most other teams, and rightly so. All in all, they're a bunch of decent kids with bad pasts who found each other and became something between a support group and a hooligan club... and their (present) leader is as much ready to deliver a swift kick in the ass as he is to offer a shoulder to cry on.
Shore, better known by his team nickname Edge, isn't the oldest, or even the strongest, but he's the most stubborn and unyielding when it comes to day-to-day living, and the toughest emotionally. A young Scyther with only an elder brother---a Scyther by the name of River---as family due to out-and-out negligence, it would only make sense that he would try to emulate him. River, however, was a career thug without any real non-combat skills trying to make ends meet, and eventually his brother was following him into the dark alleys and dirty hovels of the world, as badly as he didn't want him to. Even after numerous close scrapes and a number of arrests (but luckily no jailtime), Edge remained steadfast in trying to be just like 'Razor', since that's what kept food on the table.
One day, a particularly dangerous 'delivery' changed everything. The deal was to exchange goods for cash, but the fire-type buyer wasn't seeing things that way. A fight ensued; at the end, Razor's body was a patchwork of burns, and Edge's right leg was horribly warped... but the buyer lay dead, his throat slashed open by a panicked and desperate Edge. Leaving the burning building behind, it was only a matter of time before the police collected enough evidence to pay them a visit one week later. In perhaps the most selfless moment of his life, Razor took the fall for Edge by admitting to everything. One swift trial later, Razor was given a hefty sentence, and Edge was in the hands of the state...
... but fate would hand him to Jethro 'J' Biggs instead. The Wigglytuff former battler turned scrap recycler had been a witness to the fire, and something about the look in the Scizor's eyes while he was sitting in court moved him to act in a most unexpected way. The Wigglytuff man offered Shore a place to live, since at the time Shore's only other alternative was a juvenile hall since he didn't have a legal guardian, and the idea of life in 'juvie' wasn't terribly appealing. Getting approval from Razor was simple, and in short order, J had his own room in a large converted warehouse on the premises of Biggs' junkyard and thrift store (Fatman's Scrap and Stuff). Much to his surprise, he soon saw that J had brought in three others, bug-types like himself. As first apprehensive, he realized just why J had done this; the best way to confront one's personal issues was with support, and this was as close to family as the lot of them had ever had. Taking the lead in getting the others settled, Edge ended up as the group's 'big brother', lending an earpad or a shoulder when J wasn't around and the others just need someone to confide in. Originally unwilling to let loose about his own demons, the loss of his brother and his stay on a deserted island with a handful of similarly 'lucky' friends (and his eventual boyfriend, Oswald Jenkins) led him to realize just what was important in life... and allowed him to open up. No longer all that distant, Edge has a new view on life -- nonetheless, he's still the same green bastard that's Too Cool For Everything.
Shore is the rare Scizor whose coloration didn't change when he evolved from his Scyther form. He is still a glossy, vivid green in color, while the most flexible parts of him remain black. His eyes are a similar green, and nearly as glossy, constantly looking about and observing their surroundings. His gangly form makes dressing a bit of a pain, but he makes do nonetheless; his usual school attire consists of a snap-closed black vinyl short sleeve shirt, studded belt and matching vinyl pants.. and no shoes, since being half-Steel has its privileges. Finally, he (like the rest of the team) wears a simple chain 'bracelet' around his right wrist, the thing held together with a small padlock. If one ever sees his bare right leg, the entire lower section appears to be horribly pitted and warped from intense heat, but has set in a way that doesn't impedes Edge's movement.
As a combatant, Edge is a mixture of speed and undeniable durability, but can nonetheless cause serious damage quickly. He prefers to stay on an opponent constantly, not giving them time to breathe or even think---this can work against him with an agile opponent, as he runs the risk of 'punching himself out' if his rapid-fire offensive is evaded for the most part. Furthermore, he is fearless to a fault, and doesn't alter his tactics even when faced with those bearing fire-type attacks; Edge would rather lose horribly and embarrassingly than cower and hesitate. His recent brushes with loss, fate and his own heart (as well as regular sessions with Dr. Bones) have helped him come to grips with himself, and stifle most of his fears. He has nowhere to go but up at this point in his young life.
