Compared to the 'devil-wing' hood ornament on the front of his helmet back in the 1960s, I think _any_ improvement over that is a good thing. ^_^ I don't know if you'd be familiar with this GN....it's probably the earliest X-Men story I have any memory of Kitty Pryde, of all people, using the 'N'-word in reference to people of African descent (and it's canon, too) as well as multiple f*cks and sh*ts (I mean, even with the Comics Code Authority looking over Marvel's shoulders, that kind of thematics and language in a Marvel Superhero book is almost disturbing for 1984)..it's called 'God Loves, Man Kills', written by good old Chris Claremont and drawn by a fellow I have no recollection of doing any other Marvel or DC art I can think of, named Brent Eric Anderson (although he was very good at it). I mention it, because in it, Eric Lensherr/Magneto appeared in what I would call a 'transitional' costume, blending his 70's 'Classic' helmet & armour (and most of the time until the end of the novel, not wearing his helmet at all) with the more angular, stylized costume that guys like Rob Liefeld and Jim Lee would take up in their own work, once they got on board with the X-Titles around the time I began collecting comics.
I have never seen this costume, specifically, I mean, used as Magneto's costume or uniform after that. It's unique in that way, and I mention it because you seem to have a preference yourself for a particular style of Mr. Lensherr's cape and armour getup. I'm quite sure 'God Loves, Man Kills' is still available in print, if not in its original issue (my copy was a back issue, bought in the mid-1990s and printing date somewhere in the late 1980s), and if it might have passed you by or you it, it might be worth taking a peek at. I thought Eric Lensherr was depicted with some of the most dignity, and not as some strange, glowy-eyed Ubermensch that was about to crush your car with you in it, in any way an artist had portrayed the man during his tenure in that costume and role. If anything, for the first time I can recall in those days, in that story he didn't seem like a villain anymore.
Anyroad, a pleasure to receive your post and to post you back. Have yourself a good one!
